I have had an operation about a year and a half ago. I now have a little over hang and was wondering, do I qualify for a tummy tuck? I hate the appearance of my stomach and am very insecure about showing my body.

For most women, this is a mini tummy tuck, if the problem is confined to only the area of the incision. For problems of the entire abdomen indlucing extra skin and loose fascia, a full tummy tuck or a Hybrid tummy tuck (R) may give better results. However, it is appropriate to consider a mini tuck rather than just a "scar revision", which tends not to address the problem... more

Overhand/excess skin following surgery

It is not uncommon to experience this "overhang" after OB/GYN surgery. As others have written, a scar can develop where the skin above essentially drapes over the scar. Your options will be either a full tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck depending on the anatomy of the rest of your abdominal wall.

Tummy tuck for excess abdominal skin

Hi Jaime1977 - It sounds like you may either need a full tummy tuck or a mini-tummy tuck, but it's hard to determine this without seeing you. A tummy tuck will remove the excess skin and fat below the umbilicus and tighten the abdominal wall musculature. Check out some before and after photos to see if a tummy tuck will accomplish what you desire. Good luck!

What to do about lower abdominal overhang after surgery?

Hi there- It is very common to develop a bit of an overhang of tissue after surgery in the lower abdominal area. The scar in the skin tethers to the scar in the deeper layers, and everything above the area then hangs over this fixed point... So what's a person to do? The answer will depend on several things... 1. Your goals- if you simply want to diminish the overhang, a smaller procedure may be possible 2. The composition of the overhanging tissues and the quality of your skin in the area- lip more

Abdominal overhang

It is not uncommon for a patient to ahve an overhang (dunlop syndrome) after lower abdominal surgery.  This can be corrected by various procedures depending on how much excess you have. A simple scar revision may be all you need, or a mini tummy tuck or a full tummy tuck to achieve the optimal abdomen.

Candidate for a tummy tuck

If you have excess skin, overhanging skin or loose muscles you may be a candidate for a tummy tuck. This may include a mini tummy tuck, full tummy tuck or skin only tummy tuck. All can be done with and without liposuctioning.

Often a mini-tummy tuck for overhanging skin

As the other answers point out, without an exam or at lest a photo it isn't possible to comment on your specific situation. However, if your abdominal skin tone was good before the surgery but you now have a little bit of overhang, a mini might be the best way to go. Often what happens with surgery is that the skin adheres down to the muscle layer which contributes to the overhang. Plastic surgeons would make sure that there is a layer of fat tissue so that wouldn't happen....

Post Surgical Over-hanging skin

Often skin will drape over a horizontal scar on the lower abdomen. the most common scenario is the scar that results from a C-Section. Without any photos it is difficult to give more precise advice. Several factors would be important to know, including whether you have had any previous pregnancies, whether you were planning to get pregnant in the future, if you had muscle separation in the midline or had a hernia, and how much fat you had in the trunkal area.I would also want to know... more

Tummy Tuck for Extra Skin

Without a picture, it is hard to give you specific advice.  However, if you have loose, hanging skin, then tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) may be the best option for you.  It would all depend on your physical exam, your previous incisions and your motivation for another surgery.  Good luck.

Tummy Tuck for Overhang

Assuming that you are describing skin and/or fat overhanging a lower abdominal transverse incision, this should be correctible. Without a photo it is difficult to recommend a particular procedure. Possibilities are a full TT, mini-TT with lipo, or a scar revision with lipo. You should obtain a consultation with a Board-certified Plastic Surgeon.
