Eugene Mandrea, MD answers: Refirme or Thermage for skin tightening?

I am considering Refirme. I am 42 yo and want to start taking care of the little changes that are starting. Does Refirme works to help tighten skin? How long does the results generally last? How do the results compare to Thermage?

My area of interest in lower face and under chin--I use Botox in frown lines and crow's feet areas.

You are a good candidate for either Thermage or Refirme at your age.

They both use Radiofrequency energy to heat the deep dermis while sparing the surface of the skin. Thermage monopolar, Refirme bipolar.

Thermage treatment takes 90-120 minutes and the pain factor is moderate. The improvement is gradual(4-6 monthsor longer), although some patients see  more rapid improvement. Some patients need a second treatment after 6 months.

Refirme treatments  take about 30 minutes but you will need 4-6 repeat treatments, 2-4 weeks apart. The pain factor here is also moderate.

Please make sure that you choose a qualified, Board Certified Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon to have either of these treatments done.
