These are averages for what patients report after their surgery. Threadlifts: Most patients notice a benefit for 6 months to 1 year. No permanent benefit is usually noted since the tissues usually slide past the sutures. In all cases when we have removed threads during revision procedures, the sutures have held no tension and were often quite loose. The data are not fully in on Endotine lifts performed with undermining (lifts performed with a self dissolving device that hooks onto the cheeks or brow), but the longevity is likely to be longer than for threadlifts with no undermining. Minilifts: Most patients notice a benefit of 2-4 years. If tissue is undermined and advanced and sutured it to a new position, there will likely be a permanent, lifelong benefit from this procedure and the procedures listed below this; patients are always "ahead of the game" by a certain amount, although of course the face continues to age. Revision facelifts: 2-7 years. Since some of the advancement of the tissue has already occurred, revision facelifts generally do not achieve the rejuvenation effects of a first time lift. However, the ability of a cleverly done revision facelift to restore a natural unoperated, youthful appearance can be transformative. Facelift skin only: 3-6 years average Facelift with SMAS treatment and volume restoration (i.e. LiveFill or fat injection): Most patients notice 5-8 years in improvement, less in young patients with minimal aging signs, more in older patients who have several ancillary procedures done at the same time. Facelift with SMAS treatment and volume restoration with many ancillary procedures (face, eyes, brow, lip lifts, LiveFill, Neck-Lace, conservative CO2 laser i.e. 360 Facelift). Many patients report 8-12 years of rejuvenation or more. A natural reduction in aging does not result from tightening alone. The more clues of aging that are reduced, the better and more harmonious the appearance. Patients with well performed facial plastic surgery appear younger, but also prettier (or more handsome), if facial beauty and balance are enhanced through ancillary procedures in an addition to the usual tightening. Here is the dilemma: if a patient gets a well done facelift, but for example ignores volume losses, aging eyes, aging skin tone, yes, the result is better but it is not complete. That is why the best and longest lasting results, by far, are with a facelift expertly done combined by a number of carefully chosen ancillary procedures. In the right hands, this combined approach of facelift plus ancillary procedures also produces the most believable youth.
This is a very common question, as patients want the result to last them for years. I typically tell people that a facelift turns back the clock about ten years. How long it lasts depends on how you care forit after your surgery. Being on a good skin care regimen, skin screen and not smoking will all enhance your results. There are different types of facelifts and the length of the results also varies onthe type of lift that you had done for your surgery. A typically facelift with fat transfer and SMAS plication tend to do well over a period of years. The addition of fat transfer to the facelift has made a tremendous difference inthe possible results. It has been able to restore the volume that has been lost over time. It gives patients a youthful appearance without the overly done look that most patients are trying to avoid. However patients continue to lose fat overtime so occasionally fillers will need to be done in the future to maintainyour amazing results. I hope this helps please consult your board certified plastic surgeon for your faceliftsurgery.
This is a great common question that will (and should!) be asked many, many times over the years. In essence, a great facelift should address the following:1. Tighten the muscles of the neck (platysma) and face (SMAS layer)2. Correct any banding (ie cords) under the chin3. Sculpt any fat in the neck to provide better contour4. Remove excess skin and close incisions meticulously with minimal tension (to reduce scarring possibility)These should be the minimum requirements for a successful lift. That said, unfortunatley no lower facelift/necklift will last forever. I have attached a video that will dive into more detail.Hope this has been helpful!
Many factors come into play concerning this question that is very important to understand:1. Age2. Smoking history3. Sun damage4. Sun Exposure4. Drug/alcohol intake5. Diabetes6. Cardiovascular diseaseIt is imperative to have a pre-op evaluation by your GP/internist/specialist to approve your abililty to proceed. A pre-op EKG and possible chest x-ray (depending on history) is required in addition to routine blood work.Surgery in my operating room is done with patient under general anesthesia, monitored by a nurse anesthetist or anesthesiologist. Alternating pressure stockings are on your legs during and after surgery. A facelift can be done alone of with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or fraxel laser or endoscopic forehead lift. Depending on the factors above, a facelift can last many years! All of the above need to be addressed pre and post opSkin care pre and post op (forever) is also a keystone to an excellent lasting result! Good luck!
A good facial rejuvenation procedure lasts forever. You will always look better than you would have if you did not do it. If you take a set of twins - and operate on one and compare them 10 years later - the one that had surgery will look 8 to 10 years younger. Will you age - of course - but you have setback the clock and started aging again.
Excellent question. I investigated how much younger, if any, a facelift makes you look among my own patients. The answer was 6 years according to unbiased age-guessers. 20% looked over a decade younger. My patients themselves thought they looked on average 12 years younger. So, in the best case scenario, a well-done facelift might be able to take a decade off your appearance. Of course the aging process continues. The skin will slowly sag over time, but you will always look better than if you had not had the facelift. So if you look 60 and have a good facelift (along with perhaps laser resurfacing and fat injection), you may look 50. Ten years from now, instead of looking 70, you will probably look 60. I've attached a link in case you wish to read more about this interesting topic.
Typically I tell my patients that a facelift lasts between 8-10 yrs. That being said you will always be ahead of the game and look younger than your chronological age. However no one can stop gravity and this will ultimately age your face. Many things can help a facelift last longer and those things include botox, fillers, a good skin regimen and other non-invasive modalities. Hope this helps.
While face lifts do not last forever, they can have long lasting results! Depending upon many factors: Surgical technique used Surgeon's skill Your genetics Smoking your health You can get results that last a minimum of 2 years to 2 decades. While the facelift may turn back time 10 + years you continue to age and mature. Depending upon how hard you may look at yourself, you may request a touch up at 2 years or 2 decades.
Most facelifts these days are treated by tightening the SMAS layer. When they are performed in this manner they should last 7 - 10 years. However, there are instances where the facial skin may have lost elasticity and can result in shorter term results. Facelifting procedures can be performed as neccessary, that is to say there isn't a "limit" to the number of procedures one can have. These days, we find that patients with healthier skin seem to enjoy the results for a longer period of time.
The facelift is performed using techniques designed for a long term improvement. The long lasting results of a facelift depend on your lifestyle choices...such as smoking and sun exposure. Bone structure and heredity also play a role. A healthy patient in their fifties can have lasting results up to ten years plus.
Great question! Most surgeons will quote that a facelift "lasts" for about 10-15 years. I think this can be a bit confusing for patients as it doesn't immediately revert to how things were before surgery at the 10-15 year mark. I like to think of this more in terms of aging as a car going down a hill and surgery resets and puts a brake on the car for about 10-15 years before resuming its slow descent. As far as how long the facelift lasts depends alot on your surgeon and their chosen technique. Something like a deep plane facelift that utilizes the muscular/SMAS strength layers for the lift is likely to last longer than a mini lift or something that doesn't address the deeper layers of the face. Hope this helps!Kyle Kimura, MD
