Botox excellent for horizontal lines

Otto Joseph Placik, MD answers: Does Botox work on horizontal forehead creases?

Hi. My name is Kym and I am 38 years old. I am desperate to find a non-invasive procedure to help reduce the lines going accross my forehead. I have four (two are very small) but am very depressed about how old I feel I look because of them. Does Botox work on this type of crease? Thanks!

Botox is an excellent treatment for horizontal forehead lines. Remarkably, this takes a relatively low dose of Botox to achieve marked improvement in the forehead lines. There are two precautions in regards to forehead treatment:

1) If your brow is low then relaxing it may make it seem even lower. In this instance you may achieve a better improvment with a forehead lift.

2) If you excess upper eyelid skin (dermatochalasis), you may have excess forehead wrinkles because your are compensating for the excess eyelid skin byu trying to lift your brows. When you treat the forehead wrinkles, you may unintentionally drop your brow to the point that the excess upper eyelid skin interferes with your vision. In this case you may better be treated with a upper lid blepharoplasty.
