Arash Akhavan, M.D. description:
Dr. Akhavan is a board certified dermatologist in private practice in Manhattan. He is a member of the faculty of The Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he is involved in the weekly education of dermatologists in training. Dr. Akhavan has authored numerous articles published in a variety of medical journals, as well as several textbook chapters on therapeutics in dermatology. Dr. Akhavan has been involved in a variety of medical research studies, including extensive work studying the protective effects of a variety of natural compounds against skin cancer.
In addition to his interests in medical and surgical dermatology, Dr. Akhavan has extensive experience in Cosmetic Dermatology, including the use of Botox, injectable fillers, chemical peels for facial rejuvenation, and a variety of lasers. He has also received specialized training in Digital Mole Analysis, a process that combines total body photography with a procedure called epiluminescence dermatoscopy, in order to more fully analyze moles and follow them over time. Digital Mole Analysis has the potential to diagnose melanoma at an earlier stage, and to decrease the number of biopsies of non-cancerous moles to which a patient is subjected.
