Q: Voluma vs. Sculptra: which one is more effective at lifting the cheeks?
Answered by Dr. ShahApril 13, 2024

A: Both Voluma and Sculptra are injectable dermal fillers used to add volume and lift to the cheeks, but they work in slightly different ways and have different properties. Here's a comparison:
1. Voluma: Voluma is a hyaluronic acid filler specifically designed to add volume and lift to the cheeks. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps maintain moisture and volume in the skin. Voluma provides immediate volume and lift upon injection and can last up to 2 years or more. It's known for its ability to create a subtle, natural-looking lift in the cheeks.
2. Sculptra: Sculptra, on the other hand, is made from poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic biocompatible material that stimulates the body's own collagen production. Rather than providing immediate results like Voluma, Sculptra works gradually over time to stimulate collagen production, which helps restore volume and improve skin elasticity. Multiple sessions of Sculptra injections are usually needed to achieve the desired results, and the effects can last up to 2 years or more.
In terms of effectiveness at lifting the cheeks, both Voluma and Sculptra can produce significant and long-lasting results. However, the choice between the two may depend on factors such as your specific anatomy, aesthetic goals, and preferences, as well as the recommendations of your injector.
It's essential to consult with a skilled and experienced injector who can assess your individual needs and provide recommendations based on your unique situation. They can help determine which filler is best suited to achieve your desired outcome for cheek augmentation.

Q: I am planning to get my breast implant removed and was wondering if I have to also lift the breasts after the removal?
Answered by Dr. WilenskyApril 13, 2024

A: Whether or not you need a breast lift (mastopexy) after removing breast implants depends on several factors, including: 1. Skin Elasticity: If your skin has good elasticity and can naturally retract after the removal of the implants, you may not need a lift. 2. Implant Size: Larger implants can stretch the skin and tissue over time, resulting in sagging after removal. In such cases, a lift may be necessary to achieve a more youthful and lifted appearance. 3. Natural Breast Tissue: The amount of natural breast tissue you have will also influence whether or not a lift is needed. If you have sufficient breast tissue and good skin elasticity, you may not need a lift. 4. Desired Aesthetic Outcome: Your goals and preferences will also play a role. If you desire a more lifted and youthful breast appearance, a lift may be recommended even if it's not strictly necessary from a medical standpoint. It's important to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has experience in breast revision surgery. They will assess your individual anatomy and discuss your goals to determine the best course of action for you. During the consultation, be sure to communicate your concerns and desired outcome clearly so that your plastic surgeon can provide recommendations.

Q: Signs of Infection After Breast Reduction?
Answered by Dr. WilenskyApril 13, 2024

A: Signs of infection after breast reduction surgery can include: 1. Increased Pain: If you notice that your pain is getting worse instead of better as time goes on, it could be a sign of infection. 2. Redness: If the area around your incisions becomes increasingly red or inflamed, it may indicate an infection. 3. Swelling: While some swelling is normal after surgery, if you notice excessive or worsening swelling, it could be a sign of infection. 4. Warmth to the Touch: The affected area may feel warmer than the surrounding skin, which could indicate inflammation due to infection. 5. Pus or Drainage: Any discharge from the incision site that is yellow, green, or foul-smelling may suggest an infection. 6. Fever: A fever is often a sign that your body is fighting off an infection. If you develop a fever after surgery, it's important to contact your plastic surgeon. 7. Chills: Feeling unusually cold or experiencing chills could be a sign of a systemic infection. If you experience any of these symptoms after breast reduction surgery, it's essential to contact your plastic surgeon immediately. Prompt treatment of an infection is crucial for preventing complications and promoting healing.

Q: Post Surgery Bra's After Breast Implant Removal?
Answered by Dr. Vande VenApril 13, 2024

A: After breast implant removal surgery, wearing a supportive bra is important for comfort and to aid in the healing process. Here are some considerations for choosing post-surgery bras after breast implant removal: 1. Comfort: Look for bras made from soft, breathable fabrics that won't irritate your incision sites. Seamless bras or those with minimal seams can help prevent rubbing and discomfort. 2. Support: Choose bras with good support to help minimize swelling and promote healing. Bras with wide, adjustable straps and a supportive underband can provide the necessary support without putting pressure on the incisions. 3. Compression: Some surgeons recommend wearing compression bras or garments after breast implant removal surgery to help reduce swelling and promote tissue healing. These bras provide gentle compression to the chest area and can help improve comfort during the recovery process. 4. Front Closure: Bras with front closure may be easier to put on and take off, especially in the immediate post-operative period when mobility may be limited. 5. Size: Your breast size and shape may change after breast implant removal, so it's essential to choose bras that fit well and provide adequate coverage and support. Avoid bras with underwire during the initial recovery period, as they may cause discomfort or interfere with healing. 6. Consultation with Surgeon: Always follow your plastic surgeon's post-operative instructions regarding bra wear and any other aspects of your recovery. They can provide specific recommendations based on your individual situation and surgical technique. Ultimately, the best post-surgery bra after breast implant removal will depend on your personal preferences, comfort level, and the guidance of your plastic surgeon. Be sure to choose bras that offer the support and comfort you need during the recovery process.

Q: After Breast Reduction Surgery Will my Breasts Fall Down?
Answered by Dr. Vande VenApril 13, 2024

A: After breast reduction surgery, the breasts may initially appear firmer and lifted due to the reduction of excess tissue and skin. However, over time, gravity, aging, and other factors can still lead to some degree of sagging. The extent to which this occurs varies among individuals and depends on factors such as skin elasticity, breast tissue composition, weight fluctuations, and overall health. To minimize the risk of significant sagging after breast reduction surgery, it's essential to follow your plastic surgeon's post-operative instructions carefully, maintain a stable weight, wear supportive bras, and avoid activities that may put strain on the breasts during the initial healing period. Additionally, staying healthy and practicing good lifestyle habits can help maintain the results of the surgery for as long as possible. If you have concerns about potential breast sagging after surgery, it's best to discuss them thoroughly with your plastic surgeon during your consultation and pre-operative appointments. They can provide guidance based on your unique circumstances.
