Swing on by The Lido Deck for Some Botox? Probably Not a Great Idea

Norwegian cruise ships sailing from Manhattan this fall will feature onboard medical spas, equipped with Botox and other cosmetic treatments for travelers. Dermal fillers Restylane and Perlane will also be offered on select ships. The Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Dawn and Norwegian Spirit are among the fleet promising the upscale facial treatments.

Plastic surgeon Mark Jewell, MD, of Eugene, Oregon cautions that "a one-time encounter in a vacation setting deprives the patient not only of a relationship but also the opportunity to follow-up when complications or questions present potentially weeks or months after initial treatment."

Dr. Jewell is the leader of the Injectable Safety Coalition, an alliance of specialty physician organizations including the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

If I'm shelling out that kind of money for a cruise, the last thing I want to do is potentially ruin my experience with pain, swelling and other side effects. No, thank you!
