As the consumer content director at RealSelf, Mari Malcolm oversees the writing, editing, and medical review of our cosmetic treatment and plastic surgery procedure overviews, cost guides, and concern treatment guides.
Mari joined the RealSelf content team in 2015 after surviving stage III breast cancer, undergoing a double mastectomy, and having multiple rounds of breast reconstruction surgery that included a tummy tuck and liposuction with fat transfer.
Her experience as a patient inspired her passion to educate others about how to choose a qualified doctor, weigh the pros and cons of a procedure (including side effects and safety risks), and prepare for a smooth recovery. She considers it a personal mission to ensure that RealSelf content is medically accurate, unbiased, and genuinely helpful.
Prior to her time at RealSelf, Mari spent 15 years at Amazon—including stints as Managing Editor for the Music and Books teams—and frequently wrote for the Amazon Book Review. She lives in the San Juan Islands.
