Q: Risk of getting keloid scars from breast lift?
A:
"thick, bumpy scars" does not necessarily mean they are keloid scars. They could be hypertrophic (raised and fat) scars. Keloids behave like little benign tumors and grow beyond the original incision in a haphazard way. People with a keloid history will form them often after minor trauma (ear piercing) or a simple cut. All that being said, you are still at risk for poor scarring after a mastopexy. Atraumatic technique and buried, dissolvable sutures can help, but even after doing that, the scarring can still be suboptimal.
