I had thyroid cancer at the age of 18. Your thyroid controls your metabolism, so when I had mine taken out, my weight went from 118 lbs to 168 lbs in less than 2 months which really stretched my skin. I begged my surgeon for the last 5 years after having a successful abdominal skinectomy and breast augmentation to remove the extra skin left behind on my legs. I called my body a tale of 2 cities. At 16 percent bodyfat, my upper body was jacked and ripped and my lower body just hung there. After 5 years of regular crossfit classes and esting clean 80 percent of the time, Dr Leigh finally agreed to do my procedure. He was able to do a posterior and medial thigh lift and butt lift through one incision under my cheeks. I was so nervous going into it because I thought I would be in such horrible pain when I woke up, but I wasn't! Other than some burning and stiffness at the incision sites, I feel pretty good at day 2. I can already tell the skin looks tighter all around. Peeing is a challenge with the garment on but my go girl I bought to pee standing up has been a huge help! I'm down to 1 percocet every 6 hours, 4 ibuprofen and 50 mg of CBD a day for swelling. Will post pictures on Monday when I can take my garment off.

4 days post OP, very stiff this AM but moving around much better. There isnt as much pain as there is burning where the incisions are. I can already see a huge difference in the laxity that is gone from my skin, hooray!!

After mostly sleeping for 4 days and standing to pee, my incisions seem to have finally closed up. They are really tight! I cant put my own socks on yet but I can reach down and touch the floor. I'm off all pain meds other than topical CBD and ibuprofen. I was able to walk to the grocery store about a mile and it felt really good to get out of the house. Sitting is still really tough. I am hoping that by doing some bodywork on it myself(I'm a massage therapist by profession) it will continue to get looser. It looks pretty great right now considering I have been stuck in the compression garment for 5 days. I can tell there is still alot of swelling around the incisions and know that area will take the most time to heal. The skin laxity is much better but I can tell I would have been happier doing the front of the thigh as well. But that's just the perfectionist in me. I'm already looking forward to wearing shorts to yoga for the first time ever in my adult life. This surgery has changed my quality of life so immensely. The pain and discomfort is totally worth it to feel so much more confident about my body!
Updated on 17 May 2019:
I'm moving around ALMOST normal today. The incisions are healing. They are very stiff, stingy and itchy today. I still haven't been cleared to do more than lightly sponge bathe and I smell kind of terrible lol.
I had to pick my 3 year old up multiple times today to put him up on the toilet. Hes about 30 lbs. As a single mom, I'm just trying to be as careful as I can in my movements. I couldn't bring myself to drive at all today. Sitting is for sure the most uncomfortable position still. As is laying on my side with my legs bent any amount. My lower back is starting to ache from having to sleep with my legs as straight as I can and having to be so careful when turning from side to side. It's funny (and frustrating) that I can go from feeling so good energy wise and I start to think I'm turning the corner and the next thing I know, I am just so exhausted and sore. But seeing my updated pictures today really helped with my perspective of why I did this. I wore a dress with my garment and compression stockings today and actually had a few honks from cars on my walk today lol. I can tell that I feel so much more confident about already and my boyfriend who begged me not to have the surgery is so happy about how awesome my butt looks that he can hardly contain himself in his need to want to touch it. It does feel good to see my friends reactions and all their positive feedback so far. I am looking forward to going back to the dr on Monday to get my steristrips changed.
Updated on 19 May 2019:
I was in bed almost all day yesterday. My insions are burning pretty bad, which I view as a set back since they were starting to feel pretty good up until that point. I had been out of bed alot the day before and clearly my body was not ready for that. Its really burning at the left T junction. My friend came over to peak under the bandage and she said yes it does look open. I am actually glad the tape is covering it because I think I would lose it if I could see it. I see the Dr tomorrow so we will see what his recommendations are. On the plus side, my legs and butt look amazing already! The swelling has gone down at least 50%. I have space between my legs when I touch my knees together for the first time in my life! I could hardly believe I could see the bed comforter behind me in between my legs! I wore shorts for the first time ever to CVS to pick up some more steristrips! It felt amazing and free! Everyone close to me has remarked how much more confident I am on every level now. So having that feedback during this time when I start getting impatient with the healing process has been very helpful.

I'm actually starting to feel like a human again! My neck is really sore from laying around so much which maybe is helping distract from the pain of my incisions lol. The burning sensation is gone and now it's more of uncomfortable tightness numbness. I am happy with the results so far. I know that once I am able to start lifting weights again the results will look much better. I have been able to walk my dog 3 miles 3 times this week. I'm still really tired because my job is so physical but overall I am very happy with the progress!

Wow what a journey! I have finally started to feel back to myself the last 2 weeks. In all honesty, the recovery was way harder than I could have imagined. I have a very physical job and a 3 year old and I have never been so exhausted. I am back to working out 5 hours a week. I can do everything with no pain now. The incision point where the t junction starts is really tight and I can feel it if I stretch deeply. I've been using CBD Clinic CBD oil on my scars 2 times a day and massaging it in to the scars. My dr said he couldnt believe how good my scars look at this point. I've had no scar spreading and they are actually starting to fade already! I HIGHLY recommend you get some for post care.

You guys, I can hardly believe how much this surgery has completely changed the way I feel about myself! For the first time in my entire life, I LOVE MY BODY!! Like LOVE IT! I can not begin to tell you how much of my day used to be spent absolutely hating my body. Thinking about all the extra skin and cellulite on my legs left me obsessive about food and exercise my entire adult life. No matter what I did, my legs would not change. Now, I wake up with an air of.confidence I've never felt before. Not cocky, just finally at peace. I am still figuring what to fill all that time with now that I dont have this constant obsession with hating my body. My legs look so beautiful already and I know.my results will only continue to improve over the next 6 months. I would highly recommend this procedure to anyone who has spent time hating their body like I did. My only regret is not doing it sooner.

I can hardly believe how light my scars are already! I couldn't be happier with my end result! Especially the inner thigh scars! My butt scars are still a little sore if I hit them on something but for the most part, I feel totally healed.

Its been awhile since I posted. I think it was mostly because I've finally adapted to my new body and the scar pain is 95% gone. It does still hurt when I sit down. Not horribly but enough to still notice it. I know it takes a full year to recover from a major surgery like this so I'm not concerned with that. My results are amazing. People constantly say that I just seem more comfortable in my own skin now. People who don't even know I had the surgery!!! That's the most amazing part.
I know I have said this before, but I never realized how much time I spent hating my legs for the last 20 years. Working out obsessively until my ribs were sticking out but my legs were still terrible. The skin just hung by my knees, inner thighs, saddlebags, and under my butt. The amount of real estate that took up in my head is so sad to me now. I have all this extra time in my head to think about other things now. I can not tell you enough how life changing this surgery has been for me. I do not know that this is the right path for everyone, but for me, it was the best decision I could have ever made.
I am beyond thankful to Dr Nate Leigh and his staff for taking such good care of me. If you are looking to have some great results, go see him for a consult. His direct, tell it like approach is refreshing in a world of doctors just out to make as much money as possible. If he doesn't believe he can get the best possible result for you, he will tell you upfront and make other suggestions.

Well what can I say?! My butt is AMAZING!! It is even better than I could have ever imagined! My boyfriend is was a never a butt guy, is obsessed with it and he wants to massage me all the time so he can look at it lol. What a great problem to have!! To be able to prance around confidently in my underwear i.stead of throwing a robe on every time I get out of bed is so FREEING!! The recovery is still happening. It's still uncomfortable when I sit down but it goes away once I'm settled in. Totally worth it though!!

Hello everyone! Just wanted to post my latest progress picture! I could not be happier with my results! My doctor told me he even has people calling from out of state to come and see him for my procedure! Well deserved, my doctor also just did 2 mommy make overs for friends of mine and did a mini brow lift for my boyfriend and their results are all amazing too!
I am currently training to break the world record for burpees in an hour on March 1. I am raising money to support the Emergency Food Network here in Minneapolis. Training for this event has helped me get in the best shape of my life and i am so happy that i finally am at peace with my lower body! I am a prefect size 2! I can wear skinny Jean's instead of having to buy boot cut for my thick legs! I can not say enough good things about how life changing this process has been!
Updated on 17 May 2020:
Well, I am happy to be able to finally say a year later I think I am fully healed. I can sit down now without having to be careful of my positioning. I just attempted to break the world for most burpees in an hour too! I did 715, the record is 709, but the judge said my foot touched the tape 12 times so I lost by 6. Signed up to do it again Sept 11th. I would have never had the courage to take on such a public event if I had not had this surgery! I am telling you, the rise in myself esteem is so life changing! It just feels so good to be able to finally love my entire body! My boyfriend, who nursed me through this whole ordeal, is so amazing and wonderful. He told me he would never let me do it again if he knew what it would entail, but he does LOVE the results. He has never been a butt guy but now it's his favorite thing ever.
Updated pics of my scars which I think look really good considering how much working out I had to do to get ready for this world record training.

Some of you have asked for more photos of my thighs up close. Here are a few recent photos, within the last 3 months. You can see a little bit where my lift ends in the inner thigh, the skin there sticks out a bit but honestly, it doesn't bother me.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to post my latest photos! I am so happy with my new body!! This is the first summer where I want to wear a bikini all day, every day, without covering up my legs! This surgery has been so life changing! Its amazing how much better myself confidence on every level and how much that has had a positive impact on my life! If you are considering having this done, do not wait! There is no reason to spend your life hating and hiding your body! Can you even believe how beautiful my body is at 41? No one ever believe me when I tell them my age either. I am just glowing with happiness and a new found inner peace! If anyone has questions, please feel free to contact me! I have enjoyed helping women through this process the last year since my surgery and I am so honored to be a part of this community!

Here is my latest back side post op photo! I can not believe this is actually my body!! HUGE THANKS to my surgeon Dr Nate Leigh of Edina Plastic surgery for allowing me inner peace after a 20 year war with my body! So life changing!!
Updated on 18 Oct 2020:
Well, what can I say?? My life has changed so much for the better since having this surgery! My confidence level is through the roof, and I just broke the world record for most chest to floor burpees in one hour! I have been giving news Interviews for the past 2 weeks! You can find them on Kare 11, KSTP and WCCO as well as ON Twin Cities Orthopedics Facebook page! I would have never had the confidence to take on such a huge feat! Thank you to all of you who have followed my journey this last year and a half! I can only hope that your life will be as transformed through your journey as mine has!!
Updated on 23 Dec 2020:
I still can not believe how my body keeps transforming, a year and a half later! I finally have no more pain when sitting down and my scars are nicely set. If you are considering doing this surgery, I highly recommend it. There is no substitute for taking that extra skin off. No exercise or diet will fix it.

A year and a half ago, I would have never allowed my boyfriend to take this photo of me in my bikini AND be proud to post it on social media!! This procedure has given me so much more confidence, I can hardly believe I'm the same person!
Not having to look down at the extra skin that was a reminder of weight gain due to thyroid cancer every day is so healing!! This surgery has given me the opportunity to live in the present versus constantly being reminded of my past! If you are considering this surgery, I highly recommend it! Life is too short to be unhappy with your body!!
Updated on 20 Mar 2021:
Hey! Many of you have asked for updated photos of my scars! The good news it was hard to take the photos because you have to really try to get into a position to see them, they are not visible while I am standing. My inner thighs scars are completely blended in now, you can't even tell where they were!
I am breaking another world record for burpees on April 11th and then I will be getting the front of my thighs lifted finally! All of the working out has left the skin looser at my mid anterior thigh, so my doctor and I carefully planned to do a hip to hip incision along my c-section scar to pull up the skin in the front. I could cry I am so excited, as this is the last part of my weight loss journey I have been debating about. I will never wear pants again lol! I will make a new entry for that surgery but comment on here so you can follow along on my recovery! Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive of my journey the last 2 years! I'm also considering doing a video blog of that surgery. Does anyone have any interest in following that? Thanks again for all the feedback!
Updated on 30 Apr 2021:
This morning was my revision surgery! We retightened the posterior thigh and buttocks, and also added in anterior thigh lift and abdominal tightening.
My pain is pretty tolerable right now. My surgery was at 730 am and I work up in recovery at 915. The only pain I'm having so far is my left butt cheek. I thought it would be a lot worse, but so far, so good. I took a 365 degree before video, so people can see the difference. I'll post later today and let you know how the pain is.

I've been home for 4 hours. I can't believe how much more mobile I am this time versus last! I was afraid the pain would be greater doing both sides at once, but thankfully as long as I lay on my side, I'm pretty comfortable.

I got to shower today. Everything is so stiff and sore. My inner thighs are really swollen but at least I can kind of sit up to eat today. I'm off to see my doctor. There isn't much bleeding through my garment anymore so that's a good sign. I'm having a lot of anxiety about how to get in and out of the car.
