Hi everyone! The reviews on this website really helped me with my decision to undergo this procedure and choose the optimal size and type of implant. I just had my surgery yesterday and am extremely pleased so far, and wanted to share my story in hopes that it will help someone as well. To start, I’m 33 years old, no prior pregnancies, and finally in a place in my life where I can do something like this without breaking the bank. I have a fairly athletic body type, muscular thighs, and a broad rib cage, and have just always felt that my breasts did not match the rest of my body even when my weight goes up. My goal was to not look too different in sweaters or loose clothing, but to fill out swimsuits and tank tops better. I really wanted to look and feel as natural as possible, like these were always the breasts that belonged on my body. I live in Boston, and while there is not a shortage of great plastic surgeons in the area, I couldn’t be happier with Dr. Doherty’s team. From the initial consultation to the preop appointments, surgery, and postop care, they have gone above and beyond in being attentive and kind to my needs. Dr. Doherty himself is an artist, and I felt he really listened and understood what I was going for while also providing his expertise with what has worked well with patients like me in the past. After several consultations and trying on different size implants in sports bras, I decided I wanted round silicone implants in the range of 225-275 cc, aiming for around 250 cc. I did not want upper pole fullness nor a high profile. Based on my vision and his own experience, Dr. Doherty recommended the Mentor MemoryGel line, specifically the moderate plus xtra profile, which come in specific set volumes. The closest volume to what I wanted was 240 cc, so we went with that. This specific Mentor line holds the teardrop shape a little better while minimizing chances of wrinkling and rippling, and still offers a soft and natural feel after all is said and done. In terms of the surgical details, Dr. Doherty did an inframammary incision to insert the implants below the pectoralis muscle. The surgery was under general anesthesia and took about 1:15 hours. I will post photos from before the surgery, some intraoperative photos from my chart (showing what the implants would look like under muscle paralysis, which is similar to how they would look in a few months once they settle), and immediate postop. I will also try to update these posts throughout my journey. So far, I’m feeling great and everything looks very promising. I’m excited to see the progression over the next few months. Let me know if you have any questions! Updated on 22 Apr 2025: Recovery has been really smooth! I took pain meds for about a week after surgery, didn’t really need them after. Doc recommended not to wear any push-up bras for about a month, and it’s a real thing - I tried on a push-up lingerie for about 30 seconds, and the girls were sore for the rest of the day. I stuck with soft bralettes for support, and that proved very comfortable. On my 2 week followup, doc told me about displacement exercises (like breast massage, but with slight vertical and horizontal displacement of the implants) and scar massages, which I’ve been doing daily. Overall, I’m very happy with the look. The right implant descended and relaxed a little bit earlier than the left, so as you’ll see in the photos, the right side appears a little lower. Doc told me that my left pectoralis muscle was a lot tighter during the surgery, so this isn’t surprising. He expects this to even out over the next few months. I’ll post the 2 month update shortly.
Very skilled and kind. Went for upper thigh saddlebag removal. Excellent results and no contour irregularities (even though a Mass General plastic surgeon said I was at higher risk because I’m already trim ... 5’6 size 4-6). Dr Doherty’s pre and post op protocol is very thorough. Safety is very important. He sets appropriate expectations and genuinely cares about his patients. I can’t say enough good things and highly recommend for skilled, safe surgery.
Dr. Doherty (and his entire staff) is fantastic! I had been considering a breast augmentation for years and finally went for it this December. I live in London but am from Boston originally and went to consultations with a top surgeon in London and then Dr. Doherty. There was honestly no comparison! Dr. Doherty is warm, kind, and such a master of his craft. He truly listened to what I wanted and helped me understand the process from start to finish. His nursing staff and reception staff were also nothing sort of wonderful and truly were so kind and accommodating throughout my entire journey. I could go on and on, but but time line I’d recommend Dr. Doherty to anyone - he is phenomenal!
So far so good! I just got in. I feel like I have someone sitting on me but other than I'm good! Only been two hours. I'll keep track of the progress Doctor Sean Dorhety was excellent and all his nurses and stay were wonderful
Even when you’re a healthy weight or skinny, you can have under chin fat. I had great results from kybella but a little too great. I had too many treatments done which narrowed my jawline more than I would’ve liked. Definitely got rid of the double chin though.
I saw Dr. Doherty for so many treatments over the course of two years. Restlayne fillers for undereye and voluma for cheeks, sculpsure for abs, kybella for fat under the chin, and fraxel 1540 for face (this treatment was the only one I wasn't happy with, but it wasn't Dr. Doherty's fault). Dr. Doherty is the best plastic surgeon I've ever seen. He's extremely professional and knowledgeable. I like that he usually works directly with patients and not through staff. He is VERY receptive over email (which I haven't seen any doctor do). He answered dozens of questions for me via email in a prompt manner. His prices are also fair and he tends to have specials fairly often. He is involved with sculpsure-related research, so if you're interested in sculpsure, I'd definitely recommend Dr. Doherty.
Dr. Doherty was absolutely amazing. His care, attention and guidance was top notch and I trust him wholeheartedly. The result from my surgery was beyond my expectations and I am so happy because of it. I absolutely recommend him to anyone considering plastic surgery.
I’ve been seeing Dr. Doherty for about a decade now and will not trust my face to anyone else. I drive over an hour each way to see him and it’s worth it. He’s caring, easy to talk to and brilliant at his craft. I regularly see him for Botox and fillers. I’ve also had laser resurfacing and more recently nova threads for my jawline and neck, with fantastic results. Do your face a favor and pay him a visit!
Dr. Doherty is simply amazing. I had a both a blethroplasty and a face lift and I couldn't be happier with the results! Technically, Dr. Doherty is superb, but he is also so friendly and easy to talk to, and is a true perfectionist with impeccable follow up. I felt that Dr. Doherty listened to me and was genuinely concerned that I was both happy with the results and also that I was recovering well. I could not recommend Dr. Doherty more highly. If I could, I would give him an additional 10 stars because he is that amazing. As a side note, I am a physician myself and hence can be very particular about medical care/ procedures and can easily say that Dr. Doherty is unbelievably talented and a phenomenal surgeon.
Dr. Doherty is fantastic. He has been treating me for several years now (mostly filler/Botox and fraxel/photo facial more recently) and I continue to be impressed. I like a more subtle look - especially with filler around my mouth and it always looks totally natural. Me but better. I recently moved to the west coast but don’t trust anyone else so decided to plan a pit stop after Christmas for a touch up. Just can’t break away. The best.
Thanks for your questions and photos. Patients who are the best candidates for lipo are: healthy, non-smokers, close to their ideal weight and have focused areas of fat that are hard to get rid of. I recommend that you meet with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to be examined and be given the best and safest options. I hope this helps and I wish you well!
Thanks for your question and photos. There are some non-thigh lift options for you. Firstly, I want to state that safe weight loss will be the best start for changes to your legs. Next, I recommend you meet with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for an evaluation and discussion of your options. They will likely include 360 liposuction for your legs in combination with a radio frequency component--like the Renuvion/J Plasma device. You might also discuss cellulite specific treatments like TempSure and Profound which also utilize radio frequency. I wish you the best!
Thanks for your photo and question!Based on the photos you sent, I would say that your best option is a revision of your Abdominoplasty. I would recommend meeting with a Board Certified plastic surgeon who can discuss removing loose skin as well body sculpting with liposuction. All the best to you.
Thanks for your email and photos. Gynecomastia is typically both excess fat and breast glad. Both contribute to the shape of the breasts and the stretching of the chest skin and areola/nipples. Therefore, one would need to address removing both to truly make a change. Some fat could be reduced with weight loss, but chest fat is stubborn and usually needs surgical removal as well. I recommend you meet with a board certified plastic surgeon for the most efficient and safest was to determine your surgical options.
Thanks for your question. Typically men that have issues with Gynecomastia have both bothersome gland and fat in their chest. Weight loss and exercise is always the best answer for excess fat, but I find that most men find that this chest fat is hard to diet and exercise off. Surgery is also necessary for the gland removal. I recommend that you meet with a board certified plastic surgeon for a consultation and medical opinion. I wish you well.
