PRK (Photorefractive Keratotomy)

PRK, or Photorefractive Keratotomy, is a type of laser eye surgery used for vision correction that preceded LASIK.

PRK is performed by ophthalmologists using an excimer laser to precisely sculpt the cornea so that light can be better focused on the retina (refractive error correction).

Once refractive error is corrected with PRK, vision improves and dependence on glasses or contact lenses is reduced for both nearsighted and farsighted patients. PRK can also correct astigmatism.
