A few days ago, I went to a consultation for laser eye surgery at Herzig Eye Institute. I went through a number of tests, most of them with an optometrist. The consultation included a standard eye exam, as well as some other procedures that I’ve never been through. I would say the strangest... Read more

Well, I recently started considering lasik. I looked forward to wearing sunglasses and have been uncomfortable wearing contacts lately. Yesterday I went in for my procedure and was informed that the doctor felt PRK would be a better procedure for me. In my preliminary work up I knew I would... Read more

Right after the surgery I was pretty miserable. I took my pain meds as directed, but I remember my eyes being REALLY dry and sensitive to light. For a good 2 weeks afterwards I still wished I could slide on a pair of glasses to see right. But now, I barely think about it and enjoy all the... Read more

I had the PRK procedure two weeks ago. The doctor suggested this option due to my high prescription (-5.5 each eye) and because I had some scarring where the flap zone would have been. Long story short: I was in extreme pain that slowly diminished over three days. I only got 15 minutes of... Read more

I had 4.5 estigmatism in each eye and was 1.25 shortsited, I couldnt see without glasses, after PRK it did get better, but I'm not sure what happened to me, doctors kind of disagreed, as my vision was getting better, at the 3th week my eyes got infected, some said virus, some said bacteria, some... I had PRK instead of LASIK because its safer even though it took a few more days to heal at first. It only took about 3 days though and it's so comforting to know that my eyes are all healed and can't get damaged due to having flaps like in LASIK. It was SO worth the $ to finally get this done.... I had PRK done Jan 2013 and its been about a month now. I have to say it has been worth it, and my eyes are still improving daily, weekly, etc. I started out with -4.5, -4.75 with astigmatism. I had my procedure done at TLC in Toronto and they are amazing. The day of the procedure, you... Read more

I did PRK 3 months ago. Would I do it again? NO! I was promised crisp clear vision. I chose to have the far vision corrected and not do the mono thing. I was told that I would only lose the close up vision to where my glasses corrected. This has not been true. I now still do not have any... Read more

Note - the cost was $5000 but my really good Federal Employee insurance paid $500 :) I had PRK on Friday, July 29th and used a lot of people’s first-hand experiences in preparing for the surgery. So I wanted to share with anyone who may be thinking about it. Please feel free to ask me... Read more

PRK is $2990 and all laser LASIK is $3990. I can see 20/15 in both eyes. PRK takes at least a week to start seeing good so unless you want to be blind for a week, do one eye at a time with a month in between. Read more

I am 57, and I have worn glasses since I turned 40, when I developed nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Yep, I developed all 3! It got so I couldn't do anything without my glasses. I was blind as a bat.I started discussing Lasik with my regular eye doc about 7 years ago. He... Read more

I had custom wavefront PRK, which is different from LASIK because instead of opening the eye like a can opener and using the laser, the cornea is scraped away to expose the eye for the laser, and then grows back over several weeks. I chose this because it was recommended by my doctor, who I... Read more
