Lap Band Information
Gastric band surgery (also known as "lap band") is a surgical procedure to help obese patients lose weight.
During gastric band surgery, an inflatable band is placed around the top portion of the stomach, creating a small pouch. During meals, food accumulates in this top stomach pouch, causing the stomach to feel full after only a small portion is consumed.
The gastric band can often be placed laproscopically and is adjustable, allowing patients to modify their dietary habits and reduce dependence on the lap band over time.
