Unethical Practice, Preys on Vulnerable Young Women, Abysmal Aftercare and Follow Up

This is quite possibly the most unethical practice I have ever had the misfortune of encountering. This place is as others have described, a nose job factory. I have spoken to more than 6 other women who have had poor or totally botched procedures with Dr. Motykie, along with a horrible after care experience. This is a warning for a doctor who has harmed so many young women including myself.
The red flags are there. Please pay attention. I have consistently waited up to 3 hours to see the doctor, whether it’s a consultation, procedure visit or follow up. This speaks to their level of disorganization and mission to make as much money as possible by balancing several patients at once. I’ve never encountered this again in the 10+ consultations I’ve had following this procedure.
When you see the doctor, he’s almost charmingly to the point. But it’s a performance he repeats again and again (several women have confirmed this). He said almost verbatim on multiple visits, “This is a very straightforward procedure, keep it simple, don’t make it weird…”. I fell for it. It’s exactly what I wanted to hear. Who wants to hear that they might require more invasive surgery to achieve the results they’re looking for? Dr. Motykie knows this, so his script is that it’s straightforward, easy, minimally invasive, low down time and that he doesn’t need to do very much. “Easy breezy”. He did not explain what the procedure entailed whatsoever and I was too naive to ask. Later, I beat myself up over this, like how stupid was I to just accept his vague plan because it sounded easy? What I understood later, is that it’s the duty of the doctor to thoroughly explain and outline the surgical plan, and its risks. The onus should not be on you to ask all the right questions - you’re not the expert here. Not enough info and making surgery sound easy - huge red flag.
I came because primarily, I wanted to reduce a small hump. He said he would slightly reduce my lower lateral cartilages “blending”, so that once the hump was gone, it would be more feminine. I said sure, but please either be extremely conservative or do nothing at all. And don’t touch the tip! I just wanted a slight tweak and from the looks of his instagram, it seemed like he would be the best surgeon in achieving these kinds of micro adjustments. Many women I’ve spoken to suspect that a lot of those post surgery images are doctored. I believe it. He absolutely capitalized on having a tight marketing campaign when plastic surgery Instagram accounts were becoming popular. 100% of the women I’ve spoken to said they were sold by his Instagram.
Fast forward to post procedure. I didn’t know I would be getting an osteotomy (breaking of my bridge bones), that he ultimately excessively removed my lower lateral cartilages and possibly the upper lateral cartilages and that he did tip work, tongue in groove, to lift it up, creating uneven nostrils (remember I said absolutely no tip work). Now when I breathe in, both sides of my nose move inwards, and the right side has a visible concavity due to too much removal of cartilage. What’s worse, when the swelling subsided, a bump showed up at the bridge, which was very visible, as any light on my face would highlight it, along with uneven nostrils and a strange notch on one side that another surgeon informed me was due to the tongue in groove tip work he did. Due to the excessive removal of lower lateral cartilage, my nasal walls have very little support, so now my breathing is compromised.
Ladies, if you think “closed rhino” means non-invasive, think again. It can be even more invasive because the doctor can’t see what he’s doing vs. doing open with an experienced surgeon. Also, compromising your breathing in any way is a BIG deal. Not being able to breathe deeply can cause anxiety and impact your sleep and well being, because shallow breathing can induce a stress response. It’s not worth it!!!
As I started noticing all of these issues arise throughout the post surgery year, I would contact their office and be told not to worry and that this was all due to swelling. They basically tell you to wait a year, which releases them from liability - in the state of California, the statutory limit is 1 year.
Once I could see the extent of the issues and how different it ended up being from what I asked for, I demanded a refund and to my surprise, the doctor agreed to refund me $10,000. However, they never paid me! It was a total run around, weeks and weeks of waiting (the doctor was on vacation and so on), only stating things over the phone, so no paper trail, and then they finally said that their attorney advised them not to give me the money because they didn’t do anything wrong. What a joke. Then the kicker - they blocked me from their main line to a strange call forwarding service. What ethical medical provider does any of this?
My patient coordinator was a woman named Sandi Fischer. She was sweet at first, but after the money exchange, she became mostly indifferent. A year later when I told her I was dissatisfied with the outcome and wanted a refund, she facilitated the run around, having me wait weeks and weeks for a response. I know this isn’t their first rodeo with dissatisfied patients, so it’s additionally insulting to have to wait weeks and constantly follow up. Finally, she tells me that the doctor decided not to follow through on the refund and when I appeal to her, she shares a story that she’s also had tons of work done herself and that not all of it went well. Somehow this should make me feel better? Well, it made me feel awful and sad that Sandi didn’t have more compassion and empathy, since she’s been through this herself!
Dr. Motykie, during our consultation when you shared personal stories with me, about having vitiligo and how it propelled you to become a doctor to help people, it made me trust you. You absolutely broke my trust with the horribly apathetic way I was treated when I realized much had gone wrong with my procedure. You made mistakes that you should have owned and at the very least, given me the refund you promised. Shame on you.
If you’ve been hurt by Gary Motykie, please share your story on every social media outlet possible. Sharing information is the only way we can help others be informed and hopefully not make the same mistake.
