I Had a Terrible Experience and Feel Betrayed
I had rhinoplasty surgery three years ago performed by Dr. Kim. I decided to write a review now because it weighs on me heavily every day and every time I look into the mirror. I still cannot believe what a terrible job she did, not only externally but internally as well. The OSUMC Patient Experience is awful too! During my consultation, Dr. Kim jammed a stick higher and higher in my nose, asking me if I could breathe better; I kept telling her I could breathe just fine. I did NOT come to see Dr. Kim for breathing issues! Only cosmetic, as I listed on my intake form. I had a hump on my nose that had bothered me for 45 years. During Covid I decided to do it! I had a few consultations before making my decision to go with her. NONE of these doctors said insurance would cover any part of my surgery because I had a mild deviation to my septum and NO other issues. My first red flag was when Dr. Kim's coordinator said that insurance WOULD cover part of my procedure without even seeing me first. It was way too easy to get on her schedule, only $35, and I was on the books. I went into this surgery without knowing exactly what her plan was for me, so I emailed Dr. Kim pictures of a previous morph picture of me and called her one week prior to surgery to get more information on her plan. During our phone conversation, all she said was "she thinks we're on the same page." We most definitely were not on the same page. At no point did Dr. Kim tell me she would be cutting my turbinates, shortening my nose, or any of the other procedures she performed. I found out these things were done while reading the statement from the insurance company several weeks after the surgery. OSU billed my insurance company $42,000!! During my 1-year follow-up, Dr. Kim quickly wanted to dismiss my concerns and took NO responsibility for my outcome. She tried scaring me with rib/ear grafts and giving me a recommendation for a very expressive revision specialist in Chicago. She mentioned she only has 1% revisions; well, it's because she doesn't do them. I ordered all my medical records pertaining to my operation and discovered that my records were fabricated with issues such as nasal obstruction, sneezing, rhinorrhea, postnasal drainage, and allergies, and long-term user of nasal saline and fluticasone. None of these things are true! I submitted my CT scan that I had prior to surgery to OSC Patient Experience, confirming that I NEVER had nasal obstruction, nasal valve stenosis/collapse, or chronic rhinitis or had ever been on any nasal sprays or a sinus infection, EVER! My pre-surgery CT scan also showed my turbinates were in normal limits. Once I was able to prove this, they asked me "what I was looking for." I said answers to why these unnecessary and elective procedures, like turbinate reduction, were performed on me without my knowledge or consent. They did not give me answers; they just sent a letter saying that "I was given great care." I believe this was all about the money from my insurance company. I feel violated and betrayed! My current CT scan from 2024 shows I NOW have all the things I was operated on; severe nasal valve compromise, septal perforation, and bilateral turbinate hypertrophy!! I wrote this review to get this off my mind and warn others about this doctor and medical center. I'm sure I'm not the only one that this has happened to.
