How it works
  • Our highly-trained Review Moderation team evaluates all reviews before they're published to ensure they're written by people like you and not a member of a doctor's office.
  • This multi-step process takes up to 24 hours from review submission to publication.
  • Doctors can't pay to have reviews removed or hidden.
  • Reviews are only removed at the reviewer's request or if they violate our Terms of Service.

Consultation Only

I had a consultation with Julian Rowe-Jones in 8/18. I realise this review is 7 months old, but I feel is still very relevant.
I believe this surgeon and his clinic are very unethical.
I went to him seeking a revision rhinoplasty, nothing too drastic, I just wanted my tip refined, fix pinching from primary rhinoplasty, and my nostrils made a little smaller.
The consultation begins with his wife Emma. I found her perfectly polite, but she came across as cold, with no sense of humour and I got the impression the pre-interview with her was solely for her to judge if you were emotionally fit for surgery. She seemed suspicious of answers I gave her. I found my experience with her uncomfortable and frankly, bizarre.
After moving from room to room, she took clinical photos of me. Once the photos were done, she handed me an iPad with a gallery of "before and after" photos for me to browse, and she left to go chat with Julian. In hindsight, I think she is the one who decides if you are a suitable candidate. Again, weird.
After roughly 5 minutes she came in and took me into Julian's office. Emma sat down at the table with me in his office throughout our meeting.
*My memory is not 100% on the exact words and terminology he used here*
Basically, over the course of 5 minutes or so he told me my nose was was not suitable for surgery, he told me no surgeon would touch me because of the damage already done, and the complexity involved in rectifying it. And if a surgeon does tell me they can fix it, he "would love to know how". He told me I will just have to learn to live with it.
Our meeting was over. I received no formal write up of our meeting, which I think is unprofessional and unethical, given the cost of consultation at £270.
I left feeling hurt and deflated, facing the prospect of living with a nose I hated. A few months went by and I started to question what Julian had told me. I have visited 4 more plastic surgeons since then.
All four of them were confused by Julian's comments, and they have all given me detailed and confident notes of how my nose can be fixed.
After reading similar reviews to mine on online about Julian, I have come to the only reasonable conclusion - he wants easy patients or an easy job to do. That's why you answer so many questions from Emma at the beginning - she is specifically looking for anxiety or anyone who may be a "problem patient". I don't see anything wrong in this at all, but tell your patients this. Don't lie to them and leave them feeling helpless, that is completely immoral. I would encourage everyone to avoid this man.
I'm also happy to send anyone proof of my consultation with him. I still have the emails.
