i always knew that i would eventually have to have my chin fixed. i was told to get jaw surgery when i had braces as a kid and for various reasons it just never happened. As i got older I had no support in my chin and my face was basically falling forward and i was developing these dents and i just looked so old. I scheduled my surgery with Dr. Herte and didn't look back. I was given arnica montana and bromelin (to take 3 days before surgery). The day of surgery I was still a little nervous because she uses the intraoral method and i was not to keen on having stitches in my mouth but i trusted her so i didn't put up to much of a fuss lol.
Day 1 - woke up from surgery pretty swollen but went home and felt ok til everything wore off and i took half a loritab and another half later with a muscle relaxer every 6 hours.
Day 2 - woke up feeling pretty good switched to tylenol and that did the trick, continued with the muscle relaxers. You feel little tingles here and there but not painful.
Day 3 - visited Dr. Herte to have bandages removed - i had one very small bruise under the right side of my chin, got pretty choked up when i saw the results because i never thought i could look the way i did. i looked better then i thought i would. Dr. Herte rebandaged me just to give some extra support
Day 6 - back to Dr. Herte to have bandages removed, bruise almost gone just swelling, more so on the right side.
Day 7 back to work where everyone could not believe how great i looked and were super supportive. Still on a soft food diet, shakes, soup, etc. (BTW I lost no weight i actually gained 6lbs!!!!)
Day 9 back to Dr. Herte for a follow up - everything looks great.
Day 16 back to Dr. Herte for a follow up - my dissolvable stitches (4 of them) didn't dissolve so she had to cut them out. Fortunately i had some orajel because one of the stitches was sitting on a nerve and when she cut that one it almost sent me through the roof but that was the worst part of the whole experience - seriously that one little stitch. The implant itself is great and no problems. Even though i was so against the intraoral method i am actually grateful now that i did not have stitches under my chin - just another thing to worry about the scar fading or whatever. Back to real food!
Dr. Herte used a small implant and filled in the dents with radiasse. i also have a slightly crooked jaw on the right side so she had that to deal with too. She is an absolute artist and such a warm and inviting person i felt so comfortable with her from day one. I can not thank her enough for giving me that boost of confidence i needed.

4 weeks post op and now swelling and have nerve pain

I was feeling fine swelling was going down and i started eating. i ate a soft bean burrito and i don't know if it was because i opened mouth wider or the way i bit down or what but i woke up last friday with shooting nerve pain in the bottom lower part of the right side of my chin. It seems to be directly under where the incision was made. The pain was shooting off and on all weekend and i was miserable. i called monday because i was in agony and hoped i didn't have an infection or anything. Got in immediately and Dr. Herte checked me out and said i did not have an infection and that the implant was fine and in place the incision showed no redness and was completely healed. She stated that perhaps i stretched the nerve and it was swollen or maybe the implant was pressing against it? I don't know because i had the feeling back in my chin fairly quickly and the only irritating thing was the stitches. i was put on 600mg of motrin 4xs a day for two weeks for the swelling. So now the pain is coming and going (almost a week now but about 40% better still painful but not as sharp and still coming and going) and it seems to now be under my chin but in the same section sounds wierd i know guess it's just one nerve. i asked what was the worst case scenario she said take the implant out. I really hope this resolves because the thought of having it removed is really stressing me out and i can't even sleep i have to take a xanax every night. i was wondering if anyone had any similiar issues. I look the same i think but the swelling comes and goes but just in one spot.

Pulled this out after 1 month surgery

This "dissolvable" stitch apparently nerve dissolved. The point of the incision in my gums and where i had the most trouble. i have been in agony over a week. Last nigh i felt a very small piece with the tip of my tongue and i was like that feels like one of those awful stitches i had in mouth so i got a magnifing mirror and some tweezer and pulled out a inch long stitch that has been sitting on or next to the nerve. Was wondering if that was causing the pain and wonder if i now have an infection in that pocket there. Will ask doctor for antibiotics to be on the safe side. Thoughts? I actually feel in my gums in the middle there might be one more in there....
