TT, BA, Possible Lipo - Jacksonville, FL

ORIGINAL POST

Hello RS family…. I had been thinking about...

Hello RS family…. I had been thinking about getting lipo for a long time. So about a year ago I went to a PS and she told me that what I really needed was a TT. I have had 2 large 10 pound babies and as a result I had a double hernia repair and bladder tack a few years ago. I was disappointed because lipo is quite a bit cheaper and as a single mother of 2 boys, money is always a problem. Well, fast forward a year and hopefully, I will have saved up enough money for not only the TT but BA also. I decided ‘in for a penny, in for a pound.” LOL… Mommy makeover here I come! I have scheduled my first consultation on January 6 and my second on January 15. I am going to speak with at least 4 PS before making up my mind. I have not shared the MM with anyone except my boyfriend and my mom. I kind of expected a lecture about spending money frivolously from her but she was all on board. She said it is important for women to feel good about the way they look and investing money into that is never a waste. You cannot believe how happy I was to hear that from her! I have been reading all of the wonderful stories that everyone has been sharing about their journeys and it is inspirational. I hope that with my journey, I will be able to help someone as much as all of you have helped me. I do not have any before pictures but I will post them as soon as I take them. I am not looking forward to seeing my body in these pictures. BTW… I am 47, 5’7” and 153 pounds.

Congrats on the decision to do this. I'm 52 and have done my mommy makeover in two stages (Breast reduction first, then TT/MR)...all I can say is, I wish I'd done it sooner! It has LITERALLY changed my life. I'm getting back into shape and having a ball. Im going in for some shaping liposuction in two weeks, to finish up my makeover (didn't do any lipo on the other two surgeries, my doc and I weren't sure what all I'd need, so we waited). Anyhoo, good for you. Best wishes as you search for the right doc, cause it's important to find the right one for YOU. I'm older than you, but I shared a lot on my profile, so if you like, check it out. Might be helpful. Happy Holidays :-DSuzy

Thanks so much. This has been a very difficult decision. It is a lot of money, not to mention time away from my family duties. I have had lots of guilt. I have finally decided that I have to live in this body for (hopefully) a long time and I want to look good. I am tied of having this belly and not being able to look like I want in clothes. I really appreciate all of the help everyone has given me on my decision processes. I will definitely keep in contact. Thanks for the support.

Hooray for a supportive mom! And for you being able to do this for yourself. Thank you for starting your story with us. (And I like "RS family", that is nice). Here's a list of questions to ask at consultations. Keep us posted!

I feel like everyone here is part of a big extended family. RS is a wonderful, nonjudgmental, supportive environment. I look forward to hearing about everyone's journeys to the flat side.

Its funny bc i have been bashful in sharing with some of my friends(whom i consider to be close) for that exact reason(its hard not to feel guilty for a mom to spend money on herself rather than on her family) i fight the feelings of guilt bc ultimately it will help me feel better and that benefits everyone-lol:) you are worrh every penny! How old are your boys? To be honest i dont know that my girls (6.5 and almost 8) are really impacted much they are pretty self sufficient- my son(2.5) is the most effected bc i still hold him alot and sits in carseat etc- this will be my biggest challenge;) Will be excited to follow your journey!!

Sorry for the late reply, the holidays were overcrowded... LOL. My boys are 11and 24. My 11 year old says "mommy, you are not fat!" And then I show him my tummy of jelly and he squishes it a bit in his hands and said "that's not so bad" :) I explained to him that I wanted to look better and feel better about my body and that I wanted to look better in my clothes. He then said "I can understand, that is why I pick my own clothes in the morning" hahaha... as for my older son, he said "whatever makes you happy mom" I think that my biggest challenge will be fitting the time in work. I am an accountant and the firm I work for relies on me to do multiple things so trying to take even a few days off let alone 2 weeks is going to be a challenge. I really don't want to tell them what I am doing so I am not sure what to say. I was thinking about telling them that I have to go in and have my two hernias repaired. I hate lying but I don't know what else to do. :( If there are any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

i totally get it. my stock answer is that I needed a muscle repair to aid in stopping a forming hernia which I just parlayed into a tuck. (I don't go into that much detail but that's sortof the "general" storyline-:) most of my friends are very understanding (and would probably like to have it done also) but it's hard to feel like people would say "she's had work done" but really who cares. it's not just about looking good in clothes (which is a total perk) but it is gaining strength back in your core too, which is a total health benefit:) Is there a slower time of year in your work? I actually booked my Christmas surgery in March of last year. The office manager was like we normally don't book out that far. Once I told them my reasoning (that my kids would be off for two weeks and then I'd have several months of loose/big winter clothes) they told me I was smart bc a lot of women go in say April and want to be swimsuit ready by june and it just doesn't work like that. If you had a slower time of year for work, and you could wait that long I would do it that way. but if you didn't then I think a double hernia repair would certainly equate to what your recovery would be like (nobody would really know, I know I certainly wouldn't). Could you coordinate with your immediate superior to maybe do some work satellite? (so you could at least rest/relax when needed? I can honestly say last week/this week I could probably go to "work" if I was sitting at a desk and not having to move around a ton. (once the drains came out everything was so much easier. Good luck, I know there are SO many things to consider:) and PS it sounds like you have some great boys:)!!

Thanks for the support. I think I will go with the hernia option. I am going to try to schedule in a slow time like you said. Thanks for the suggestions. Also, I posted a few pictures of my before body. Thanks again for the support. :)

absolutely! We are all in this together:) I think its hard because the reality is we aren't doing this because we are vain. It truly is a fixing of things. but that's the typical attitude of many. I got your back girl!:) I'm telling you, I'm so happy I did it that I'm caring less and less what people think about it (and believe me, I still have somewhat saggy original boobs, flabby thighs, dimples in my butt:) I just now don't have a muffin top-boo ya!:)

Question about a vertical scar

High Springs3333
I have noticed some women have small (and not so small) vertical scars running from the main incision up toward the new belly button. I have read on one review that said they had this scar because it is the 'remains' of the old belly button and then I also read that someone said their vertical scar was because they did not have enough excess skin above their belly button. Could someone tell me what is the deal with the vertical scar? I really would like to avoid one in my future (if possible) thanks so much :)

you know, when I was looking at that section of my scar last night I feel like I might have a very small vertical scar, but then it could be the markings of the dr that still haven't washed off, my next follow-up is the 16th i'll let you know!

Thanks. I have three appointments with different PS next week and I plan to ask each one about this. I have been looking at the 'before and after' photos of TT from each PS and some have the vertical scar and some don't. I really appreciate the help and I will post what happens at my appointments.

I took a pic of mine, I'll post it tonight. it's roughly an inch? it really doesn't bother me that its there (saying that now:) I'll ask my dr about it next Friday. could possibly have to do with the way they seam the skin?(I'm not a great seamstress, but I imagine with the things I've done before it might be a "make it work" scenario:) and to be honest, by C-section scars shrunk over time I would imagine this will shrink to hardly anything. yes, dying to hear how your prelims go!

A few photos

High Springs3333
I am not happy with the way I look. Before children, I had a rockin body....now, well you can see. I want the tummy and love handles gone and something done with my breasts. My son thinks I am a bit crazy because he thinks I look fine (he is 11). I will post more pictures as I can.

can I just say that I LOVE the fact that your son thinks you look fine (my son is 2.5 but it makes me all warm and fuzzy to hear moms talk about how loving their sons are (not that my girls aren't). I think you will be the perfect candidate! and I giggled at the dunlap comment:) Excited to follow your journey!

My boys are very supportive. I am lucky to have them in my life. I was truly blessed. I am going next week to three different PS to get consultations. I will post how that goes. Thanks for the comments. :)
