1 Week Pre Op! So Excited! - Los Angeles, CA
ORIGINAL POST
I have been reading reviews on this site for some...
$8,500
I have been reading reviews on this site for some time now and decided I would document my journey since in hopes of helping others looking into the surgery. Almost 10 years ago my sister threw a thick spray bottle at my face and it left me with a collapsed cartilage and a giant bump on the later wall of my nose (the "wing" part). My nose was left twisted to one side which caused asymmetry, trouble breathing, and sinus issues. Anyway I researched surgeons in LA but could not find any before photos with patients that needed similar procedures done. I started searching for plastic surgeons who were also ENTs. I found one who had repaired broken/twisted noses. I really liked how natural the after photos looked so I booked a consultation. During the consultation we addressed both my functional and cosmetic concerns. He was very friendly and I immediately felt comfortable with how he takes a natural approach to cosmetic surgery. He told me to take some time to think about it but I already knew I wanted him to perform my surgery. The following week I called to schedule a surgery date. Fast forward 3 weeks and here we are today! I am 1 week away from surgery and I could not be anymore thrilled. Ill admit I am pretty nervous but I am more excited than anything! I will post before and after photos soon :)
Here is what I will be having done:
Functional portion: 1) Repairing deviated septum (slightly deviated due to the blow to the side of my nose)
Cosmetic portion: 1) Repairing the collapsed cartilage (right side)
2) Treating hanging columella
3) Slightly smoothing the bridge of my nose
I am most worried about swelling as I will be starting law school next month. I have orientation on the 10th. Anyone have similar work done and can tell me about how long the MAJOR swelling takes to subside? I know everyone is different but i am just hoping that 3 weeks is enough time for the MAJOR MAJOR swelling to go down.

Congratulations on law school! I am applying next year. Where are you attending? You're so pretty, even with swelling I'm sure. My MAJOR swelling was gone within 3 weeks. The tip is still a little swollen but everybody else says it looks completely natural. You'll be the only one who notices by that point :)

Thank you love! Unfortunately the closest school that I was accepted to was Whittier in Orange County but I plan on tranfering to an LA school after my first year *fingers crossed For USC* good luck on applications and the LSAT! Let me know if you need any advice / help. You're so sweet thank you! I am still very self conscious about the fracture :( hopefully it will look like my old nose before the blow after surgery (or better!). Okay that's great news! I'm not expecting it to look perfect as long as I don't look like I've been hit by a bus then we're good :'). What did you have done exactly?

I plan on transferring after my first year also :). I don't think I will be able to get into the closest CA school either. Idk why CA law schools are so conservative with GPA!
I had an osteotemy (the bone fracturing) done as well. My bruising lasted 2 days - by the third day it all began turning yellow and was completely gone by the end of the week. You will definitely be A-okay for public after 3 weeks. I can promise you though that you will feel like its still super swollen - we all stare at our imperfections haha :). It'll look fine to everyone else though.

Yeah they totally are ! I was rejected from a school I was wait listed for because the dean felt I needed to take a year off and focus on myself -___- omg okay that's great news !! I want to be able to go outside I can't imagine staying cooped up at home for that many days!! I'll lose my mind :') oh I'm sure but nothing a bit of contour can't fix!

Sorry for the poor photo quality. You can hardly see the bump on the side but this will do for now. I'll update more later!

Here are some before photos. So I don't mind the left side profile from this angle. The other side not so much-that's where all the damage is.

Good luck with your surgery! Who is your surgeon? X

Right after you get out of surgery, ICE YOUR FACE/EYES!!!!!!! Avoid your nose and cast of course. This will help with the swelling a ton. Even if you don't see any visible swelling, you should still ice. On the third day for me, it was the worst! and I hear it is for most people.
Also you want your diet to have as little salt as possible, you must stay hydrated and you must stay away from spicy foods!!!
Everyone is different with swelling depending on what the doctor does and how much "damage" is done lol.
Good luck with everything, if you have questions I'd be glad to answer from my own experience :)
Yes it's still on but My appointment is today to get it off. So in about 3 hours I will be castless haha ;)
Judging from other people's bruising I'm actually a lot better than most. I have a little bit of bruising on the inner part of my eye but nothing too serious!
It definitely gets worse before it gets better. I didn't ice because on the first day I had no swelling or bruising but then later I read you should ice anyways to minimize the bruising! (Wish I knew that at the time)
The first 3 days are the worst but trust me once they get the stuffing out, you will feel like a brand new person :]
Is it going to be an open or closed rhino?
Good luck with everything and I hope you are as pleased as I am with your results!
