Post-Massive Weight Loss Surgery

I underwent lower body lift and breast reduction and lift on March 3rd, 2016. I lost 100 lbs after bariatric surgery in 2012 and while I still have weight I could lose, if I decided to wait to reach my goal weight for this surgery - it would never happen! In the past two years I've learned that my body likes being between 180-190. This has been my constant weight for about two years. After discussion with my bariatric surgeon, I decided it was time for the excess skin to be removed and for my breasts to be restored to their rightful place on my chest! My surgery went well - it was March 3, 2016 at Inova Fairfax Hospital. My surgeon was Dr. Lickstein - and my review below will tell you how tremendously happy I was for choosing him as my surgeon. I'm only 2 weeks out - but the results are amazing. There is nothing like hearing your surgeon say, "you are tiny!" FYI - I'm 43 yrs old and 5'3" - one surgeon I consulted with told me I was "too chubby" to get the best results and he wanted me to verbalized that I understood this. Note to those of you doing post massive weight loss plastic surgery - avoid surgeons who mostly do "Mommy Makeovers" or who call you chubby! Ask about their experience with baratric patients and watch their attitude. It amazes me that even after 100 lb wt loss I still experience the shame of not being super skinny. Anyway, picking the right surgeon is tough - it takes time - but I'm glad I took that time in my journey. Photos to follow!

After consults with several other surgeons, I chose Dr. Lickstein for my breast reduction/lift and lower body lift following massive weight loss in 2012. He had only been with the Bitar Institute for Cosmetic Surgery for three months and I wasn't able to find much in terms of reviews on-line, so I did lots of due diligence before even my initial consult. I cannot express how happy I am with my decision. Dr. Lickstein immediately puts you at ease and right away understood that I was going to need major surgery - not just a little tightening. He approached me from both a medical and an aesthetic approach which was a bit of a surprise for me. It's been years since I thought of my body as beautiful - and he has unexpectedly helped me get to this place. I'm not at my goal weight, but I've been at a steady weight for over 2 years now - and he agreed with my bariatric surgeon that it was time to get rid of the skin that was causing me such great discomfort. He is a meticulous surgeon - which was confirmed again just before I went under by the nurses in the OR. They said I made a good choice and they all really like working with him bc he takes such good care of his patients to ensure the best outcomes. My follow up care has been great. I still have a ways to go (only 2 weeks post- op so far), but I wish I had more reviews about this surgeon ahead of time to just for peace of mind. One of the things I really like about Dr. Lickstien is that he tends to treat his patients as a partner in the process. I'm not sure this is intentional or just his personality, but it makes a big difference to know that I have a major say in my care and am not just another patient getting another procedure. He takes the time to listen and consider all options and that's a pretty rare trait in a surgeon. I highly recommend Dr. Lickstein. Also - I peeked in the mirror for the first time today - I'm not a mirror person likely due to my weight issues - and I only saw my new body for a moment bc the tears just started to flow. I look so...normal. Thank you thank you thank you Dr. Lickstein!
