Revision Rhinoplasty- Mark Saved my Nose.

For many years I struggled with the shape of my nose (it was my biggest insecurity) so I made the decision to do something about it. I searched around and found a surgeon in Toorak; I made an appointment and saw him within the coming weeks, this was my first consultation with a plastic surgeon- so I was very nervous. After the consultation I was given a quote of $30,000 for a rhinoplasty! I nearly fell off my seat! (Not to mention that this guy was charging people more to have a consultation with him – I opted for the cheaper option) I couldn’t believe that $30,000 was the price to my happiness. With the assumption that all surgeons in Australia charged the same I looked at my overseas options. I found a surgeon in Bangkok willing to do my surgery for only $5000! I couldn’t believe my luck! What a bargain! I booked my flights and I was off. I got to Bangkok, met my surgeon, told him what I wanted but at this point I was very scared of the operation so I told him that I only wanted a slight change, nothing to drastic (something I would regret later), the operation was the next day. The operation was a closed rhinoplasty - the surgery went well and I recovered perfectly. A year went by and the final shape had taken place, the surgeon did a good job but there wasn’t a huge difference from the original shape (He did as I asked) so I went looking for another Thai surgeon, I was determined to get the “Perfect” nose. I Found another Thai surgeon booked my flights and I was on my way. This time when I met with the surgeon I told him exactly what I wanted. The surgery was performed and I was happy. A few months passed and I noticed a little redness on the tip of my nose I thought nothing about it until I woke the next morning to a swollen bright red nose! I went to the doctor and they could not find anything wrong with it, so they gave me some antibiotics to help if there was an infection.
After a few days the pain, redness and swelling subsided and I was back to normal until the next day the same thing happen, I woke to a very swollen bright red nose! It was tender to touch and when I pressed the tip hard enough a whole heap of pus gushed out of my nose bringing instant relief! This carried on for months, each week I would need to “pop my nose” (as I called it) – I saw 3 GPs and 2 specialists and they were all stumped, no one could tell me what was going on and after months of medications, swabs, blood tests my only option was to have surgery to see what was going on inside. Mark was recommended to me by my specialist, I made my appointment with Mark and saw him within a week or two. Mark had read my notes and I explained the situation and it was discussed that surgery was going to be my last option, Mark suggested that we only do the surgery if it gets worse. After a few months my nose did get worse so we decided it was time to booked my operation. At the time my financial situation wasn’t the best and Mark was very understanding but he was also very concerned –(Now, if you are looking for a Doctor who will hold your hand and tell you lies and that everything will be okay.. then Mark is not your guy, I suggest you check out the Toorak Doctor. Mark was and always has been VERY HONEST with his expectations of my surgery and as much as it pained me to hear that I could potentially end up looking like Michael Jackson (At Best) I knew I was in the right hands, Marks goal for my surgery was to clean the infected area, get samples and remove any foreign objects left from my “mates” back in Thailand).
My surgery with Mark went great, he took some samples for the labs so we could see what the infection actually was and he also removed about 5 random loose sutures which were just left inside my nose not serving any purpose (Thanks to my mates in Thailand), I left hospital the following day and felt great (Hardly any bruising), when I looked that the incisions on my columella I couldn’t believe how straight and precise his incisions were (I’m a perfectionist and those were some VERY precise cuts, I would show people at how awesome my Doctors knife skills were- no joke, his attention to details is AMAZING!!). A couple of weeks later my nose swelled up out of nowhere, I called Mark and he told me to rush back to hospital to get some stronger antibiotics via IV, Mark came to the hospital that night to check up on me. After the third day of IV, my nose got so big that pus came out of my nose like a waterfall, Mark just so happen to walk into my hospital room when I was a human waterfall. Mark moved heaven and earth to clear the surgery room so that he could go back in and clean the insides once more, this infection was very stubborn and was not reacting to the antibiotics. Finally the results came back and we managed to get the infection under control. It has now been 4 Months since my operation and (Knock on wood) have not had any flare ups since, this has been the longest time my nose hasn’t had a flare up in over a year. Mark is a F@#king legend as a Doctor! He literally saved my nose!! My nose is stunning!!... And his prices don’t break the bank! I would recommend Mark in a heartbeat, his practice is full of lovely staff who helped me in my time of need. I hope my experience can help make someone else their decision easier on whether to have surgery overseas or here in Australia, you might save a few bucks but your life is worth more than all the money in the world. If I EVER decide to undergo plastic surgery again Mark will be my first and only choice.
