Chin implant revision

WORTH IT
I’ve had my chin implant for almost 2 years, I’ve haven’t been 100% happy with it. I know it doesn’t look horrible, but I think about how I want it to look better almost every day. In my process for a revision, I’ve reached out to numerous doctors who agree it could look better. I’ve contemplated just getting it removed, but I already spent a bit of money on it, and I don’t miss my weaker chin. I’d rather just spend more money and have it look better. After a year of researching doctors, yesterday I set up a consultation for Dr. Nayak in St. Louis. Via photos, and after I sent him the operative notes, he told me the implant is a little too square/big for my face. He said he would replace it with a different implant that will look softer. I am extremely nervous to get a second surgery, but if the implant can make me a little more happier, I’m willing to do it again. I don’t see many chin implant revision stories on here, and since I shared my first experience, I’ve decided to share this. If you’ve had a revision, please share your experience with me!

Good luck to you! I’m having a revision done in July I will only have my current implant in for 4 months at that point. We are own worst critic. You have to be happy with yourself and your appearance. I think you look beautiful both before and after the chin implant. Hopefully your new surgeon will be able to help you achieve the results you are looking for.

Omg I’m so glad you reached out, I read your story and I feel like we are going through the exact same thing. I hope the same for you! You are beautiful! I looked into dr eppy as well. I’ll keep following your story for the revision, I’m so scared to get it done

Before I decided to remove my chin implant completely I had consultations for revision. I had multiple surgeons tell me in order to replace the implant I'd have to leave it out for a couple of months to let the pocket heal before they'd put a new one in. Are you able to remove and replace in one surgery?

Sorry I know you didn’t ask me but from my experience surgeons will suggest that when down sizing an implant if they aren’t screwing it in place. The only real risk you have of swapping right away is if the implant is smaller, it can move around too easily in a larger pocket created from the old implant.

How was it getting the implant removed? I’ve had mixed answers. I had 1 doctor tell me just to take it out completely, a few saying a revision would easy to do, and a few saying for best results, to let your chin heal, then get the implant or sliding genioplasty. I’m intrigued by what Dr. Nayak is going to say about what we should do, my consultation is at the end of June

I know dr. Nayak told his assistant that he would want a different shape with me, and he also said my implant was too big, after I sent him the operative notes. I’ll know for sure at the end of June!

Good luck to you! My removal experience was/is really good! My chin looks fine and I haven't had any of the scary complications I have read about like the dreaded "witch's chin". My incision is tiny. It feels good to be done with it. My problem was the implant always felt foreign and uncomfortable. It was too big and placed too high. I look forward to hearing about your decision and journey!

That’s the tricky part about this :( I found so many surgeons in the west coast I loved, but I also live in between a bunch of majors cities in the Midwest, so I wanted to find someone I could drive to, that would make it a little financially easier for me

Finally had my consultation
Jdt1989June 27, 2019
Yesterday I went to Dr.Nayaks office to have my consultation. He wanted to see my implant in person before making any final decisions. After seeing it in person, he stood by his comment, my implant is too low and too wide. He showed me physical samples of the implant I have in now, and the one he would replace it with. The one I have now (mittleman) wraps a little under my chin, making it add length. And also the wings have a bit of thickness to them. The one he would replace it with, would be slimmer with wings that have no projection, it also wouldn’t wrap onto the under part of my chin. He was very transparent about the reality of how my revision would look. It won’t be a huge difference, but it will 100% make me less self conscious about my implant. The new implant will be shifted up, and take millimeters down in all direction. I’m now starting the process of my revision surgery, I can’t wait for it!!

Well I had a revision that still needs a revision unfortunately.. surgeons in my country don't have much experience with chin implants. I am still considering whether to get a second revision or just live with it until I can afford to do it abroad :(

Oh no :( I'm so sorry to hear that! I'm worried about this revision too after the first experience I had. Where do you live

Potential before and after
Jdt1989July 1, 2019
I forgot to include the potential before and after, I only got front and profile “before and afters”, the main change that I saw in person is going to be the front view and the 3/4 view. Taking millimeters off makes it look so much better. I’m planning on getting the revision in the 3rd week of September!
