Not very happy with the outcome

Unfavorable Aesthetic Outcome for Breast Reduction

I am 11 months PO, 5 months post op revision, and not very happy with the outcome. Been going back and forth about writing a review.

I chose this particular surgeon because she’s a woman, she doesn’t use general anesthesia for this procedure, she has great credentials on paper, there was only a 3-4 week wait, and she does the lollipop method (I was not aware that she does a very outdated version of it/technique, however).

My breasts were large but pretty dang symmetrical pre reduction (so much so that she swapped back and forth with which boob “was bigger” between consults and actual appointments). I said I didn’t care about the scar line (as in jagged appearance or color), but wanted them as flat and aesthetically appealing as possible. I also wanted to do this in one surgery. First surgery gets done, and I immediately notice one side is overly scooped out, sunken on top, with the nipple really high and melting into the breast like a baked-in Hershey’s kiss on a Hershey’s kiss cookie, but at least the boob was small. Then I notice the other side is much, much bigger, and at a different height with the nipple large and pointing an entirely different direction. This stays the same throughout the healing process. This was very uncomfortable, noticeable, and nothing fit. I also noticed two belly-button like holes under each breast that did not present at all like any lollipop scars I’ve seen. I had to google back to late 80’s/early 90’s medical journals to find this technique, which many surgeons do not recommend or use anymore. Those “belly buttons” remained. These would show with every swimsuit.

I spent the summer in oversized, baggy, hot clothing when outdoors, but mainly stayed inside. I felt absolutely awful about myself, almost wishing I could trade back the back and neck pain for my original boobs and find another doctor; hindsight is 2020 and I was desperate to get rid of my large breasts. I decided to give her another shot with a revision at the 6 month mark, mostly because her daughter was joining the practice, had MUCH BETTER bedside manner, and I’m assuming, vision.

Well, most of it was fixed. She removed the belly button holes, made the big boob small. She didn’t move the nipple up to match the other as we had discussed, and she didn’t even try to make them sisters instead of cousins. Nothing fits right. I’ve gone to another cosmetic surgeon friend of mine who was baffled by my results. I’ve thought about going elsewhere for tweaks, but I don’t have the money, time, or mental capacity to deal with another surgery and am going to instead try to accept my results as they are and be grateful that I didn’t have any severe complications. I’m putting this out there for anyone who is considering going here instead of to NYU etc-there are much better results to be had for much cheaper in NYC.

Also to note-surgery all in was about $24k with the revision included. However, their office billed my insurance $40k (what?!) twice which was denied, regardless of the preapproval. In total, after 6 months I got $1248 back.

I was pressured enourmously at a post op in the beginning to leave five star reviews-so much so that they brought me a tablet so I could “leave a review before leaving the office.” This made me uncomfortable. I left one from my phone, and later deleted it.

I had no complications, and for that I’m grateful. That’s what the 3rd star is for.

For what it’s worth, I’m so sorry to hear of your less than ideal results. It is very kind of you to share your experience with this surgeon in the hope you may spare someone else a similar outcome. It sounds like you have a great attitude, and best wishes going forward.

Thank you. This whole experience has been a bit rough, but I’m trying to move forward in a positive manner.

I am so very sorry that you got this poor result. Thaks for sharing your photos. Those holes at inframammary fold are just awful! I keep wondering why this is such a difficult surgery to perform? I rarely see anything I would consider as a "good" result. And to be charged $24,000- adds insult to injury. Hope you can eventually get a better outcome.

Maybe in the future if/when I have money, time, and am mentally prepared for another surgery, I’ll get one from another surgeon. I did ignore the red flags from my initial consult, so I guess that’s on me for being over eager for the surgery and not listening to my intuition. “She trained at great schools, has an office across from the met, maybe I wrong!”

I know they looked great, but they caused me a lot of physical pain for years. At least that is gone! Not to mention a lot of unwanted attention from men, no matter what I wore. I get that a hell of a lot less now.
