So where do I begin? First off I didn't consider surgery EVER until about two months ago. I use to weigh close to 115 pounds when I was 20. But then I just got fatter and fatter. I'm not one who isn't active either. I have a gym membership and I actually go. Lol I just hit a all time high at 196! I'm 24 yrs old and 5 feet tall. I didn't look 196 but I felt it. After exercising and eating right really wasn't helping me I decided to make a change. I'm starting law school in January and I knew I had to so it before then. So I found my surgeon and within a month of me finding him on realself.com and contacting him I had the surgery. I had it on 5/29/14 in Pontiac MI. I kind of underestimated the surgery... A tad bit lol from reading all the other reviews. BUT it was bearable because of the pain meds. I went home after a day and was okay I just couldn't get out of bed without help and I had the hardest time getting fluids in. I did think at one point, why the heck did I just blow 11200?? My hard earned cash. Lol but I do not regret it. I haven't had the full benefits reaped yet. But as of now I did lose 17 pounds. I am 12 days post op and I don't weigh myself everyday. (I did at first) but I think it will only drive me insane. But yeah, I'm 12 days post op and honestly I'm fine. Lol I can pretty much do everything I was able to do before surgery. I started jogging again I felt helpless just laying around. I did find out today I have an extremely irritable rash around my entire tummy. I emailed my surgeon, waiting for his reply because I cannot take this itch anymore! And it's starting to spread. So pretty much the main points are;
I was fat 189 @ 5'0
I had the surgery 5/29/14
My doctor was freaking amazing.
Pain was bad the first day, second day it was more of the hospital bed then anything else. That bed HURT. Had me in tears.
Fluids were hard to get in. Got easier around day 9.
I'm 12 days post op and I'm completely fine. Can do everything I did before. I just don't eat like that.
I plan to follow up with my surgeon around 1-2 month mark. Since I am out of state.
If you're considering it get it. Go see my surgeon he's awesome. ??
Cons:
I burp non stop. It's not very lady like. I wish this would go away. I tried everything!
I now have to take 2 nexiums every 3 days because I feel like my throat is on FIRE!
I cannot chug ice cold water like I used to. I miss it so much
Incisions still kind of sting. Which I'm sure will go away with time. Unfortunately, mine are purple. I'm sure it's because I bruise too easily. ???? hope it goes away later.
I'll post photos after I lose some drastic weight!

UPDATED FROM CrazyJersey
2 months post
Almost 2 month review. 2 month 7/29
CrazyJerseyJuly 27, 2014
So it's been 2 months and in down 30 pounds. I didn't even notice I started to lose weight but everyone who has seen me told me I was losing weight like crazy. I am currently 160. My goal weight is 120 but I'm making my goal 10 pounds a month. I go to school and work non stop with only 8 hrs left on the day to sleep so I am not exercising. But I do work in the city so I get a lot of walking in during the day and night. My incisions have healed nicely hopefully they go away soon. If not it's okay I don't mind. I still do the muscle milk light 3x a week because I kind of hate solid food now. I don't like pizza, any fried foods, meat or sweet things. I'm super I obsessed with fruits, veggies, hummus and protein shakes. I'm actually a bit shocked. I love seafood. All I eat is seafood (mainly salmon). My whole taste buds have changed. I no I am losing weight slower than others but I also know why that is. I didn't do a liquid diet pre op because I wasn't required to and that's where ppl lose a bulk of their weight from. Also I didn't really do the liquid diet 2 weeks post op either. I just ate soft foods the whole time. The first 3 days I did drink my meals but after that I went to soft foods and I'm completely fine. ( don't do what I did. Follow your doctors orders) but now I actually don't even care for the soft foods and I can actually eat solids. Whoever is considering it you will see your taste buds will completely change. Hopefully for the best. I'll update next month. Hopefully I'll be 150 by then. Keeping my fingers crossed. I'm still not convinced this was worth it. Since I paid for the whole thing myself. But if I can get to 150 this month I'm officially updating my status to worth it. Well let's see for my next update. Thanks for reading!

Great story thank you CrazyJersey, I'm getting the band only (port removed 5 years ago) out on 22 August, have to wait healing weeks and sleeve scheduled for 24 October. I'm sure it will fly by. I'm paying $5500 here in Oz - half your cost so I'll be happy twice as quickly (full of theories me). Your 30 lb in 2 months would absolutely thrill me! OMG I would fit my size 14 clothes with that loss and I've a cupboard full of those! I'm hiked up from a size 12 to a 16 in 2 years, and a size 14 for Christmas would thrill the tips of my tubby-toes. I'm 173 tall BTW. Thanks again for the story.

Your 173? Honestly I was 178 ish and then once I scheduled my surgery I started pigging out. (Such a fatty) because I thought I can never have these foods again!! Haha and gained like 10 pounds in two months. Haha. Lol yes surgery in the states is expensive but i really wanted to get it done at this particular place and with this doctor because I had ppl to care for me nearby.

I was like 189 and I wore a size 10. Hmm weird. Lol but everyone said I didn't not look anywhere near there everyone guessed 160. Lol

Oh sorry, I'm 173 cm in height and weigh 215 lbs! My out of pocket will be $5500 but I'm okay with that if the outcome is good.

I hear you on the chugging! I completely miss being able to drink like that. I used to drink a tonne of water every day, now I can't handle water by itself, I have to put something in it, otherwise it upset my tummy and I hate that I can't chug anymore.
What stage are you at with your foods now?
You really do need to stick to your doctors diet program if you can. It's not just to help you lose weight. At this early stage, if you put too much in your stomach, or the wrong kinds of food, it's dangerous for your new stomach and your staple line, which is still healing.
