After months of research I nervously approached my husband to float the idea of having a gastric sleeve. He (skinny man) didn't understand and told me he loves me the way l am. I explained to him that this has been a burden for me since I was a small child and reminded him that my whole family have major weight problems. My personal motivation is that I do t want to pass on the food battles to my beautiful three year old daughter. So I asked my dr who he would recommend and he said Richard Babor. I went to his rooms, weighed in and was JUST on the right side of insurance contributing towards my surgery. I found his manner pleasant and he was very informative. I have also me with the dietician who was AWESOME. She was not judgmental in any way and so supportive and realistic. I'm now on the presurgery diet of Optifast. I've lost 6kg in 6 days. Pretty ridiculous. I'm down with flu but sticking to it. Today I could have hoed into the meaty stew my husband was eating but that's been about it (meaty stew wouldn't normally get me so excited...) will keep you updated and post pics.
All time high weight (3mths after giving birth to son): 128kg
Pre-Optifast: 119.8kg
Today 113.8kg
Height: 172cm

Welcome to the family! You will find lots of support and good tips and information here. I was just sleeved 2pm Thursday 9/10 and was home by fri9/11 7pm. I have had very little incisional pain (6small ones) it is the gas pain pressure that Is very uncomfortable. You have to walk walk walk it off. Read some of the reviews here. Puppy's momm, carol Anne , Choripan are a few of ones that have great tips for preparing. Good luck with your optifast and keep posting.

Hey Luv....welcome to the family. My husband is a toothpick also....LOL....He was not all that supportative about having the surgery. He too told me to exercise, watch what you eat....That's coming from somebody who has been 175lbs all their life. I was so frustrated with him I almost gave up. After talking with a few I finally let it go in one ear and out the other. I have to do this for me. either he is with me or against me. After some time and prayer, he has come around some.....baby steps!!!! I wish you well on your journey, You will do fine. Cant wait to see the finished product. I am in the beginning stages of my journey. Have to do 3 months supervised visits for insurance to pay. I should have my approval by December. Trying to aim for a January 2016 date. Keep us posted.

Ooh good luck Stacey! You can do it. I don't think anyone can understand unless they've walked in our shoes. So good to have the hubbies come round. I look forward to following your journey.

No Ascot Hospital. It has been a brilliant experience so far. Craig the anaesthetist is absolutely lovely and thoughtfu, the nurses have been great and Richard the surgeon has really taken the time to make sure I had any questions answered. I'll keep updating my review.

Wow. In one weeks time I'll be checking in to hospital for my sleeve. I'm really excited but truthfully feeling scared to leave my 3 year old daughter. She really needs her Mummy at the moment and the thought of something going wrong and me not being here for her anymore is unbearable. She has verbal dyspraxia and I'm one of few people who can understand her. My 9 month old son? He's fine!
So far since being on the presurgery diet I've lost 8 kg which is nearly 18 pounds. I've found optifast is awesome and quite easy once you get past day 4. I have cheated twice over the past month. We had family lunch after church on Sunday and one Friday night I had one piece of my husbands pizza. WAS SO GOOD. I'm enjoying my slimmer self and beginning to get back into more of my wardrobe.
I'm praying for my surgery for a great result, quick recovery and no leakage. I just want to be the best Mum I can for my two babies.

Oh dear it seems I'm very good at dodging the camera bc there aren't many photos of me around! I've found some shockers from work that will suitably supply dramatic before shots!

That's why we are doing the sleeve so we can participate in life more. After I turned 40 I stopped looking in the mirror and avoid photos at all costs so I totally understand. I am getting sleeved in October. It took me months of agony about the price and the risk but to be honest the risk is greater letting time pass by and not living my life fully. I have some other health issues but I am hoping the sleeve will allow me to ride bikes with my daughter and convey some self confidence to her, something I used to have but lost over the last few years. Good luck to you and hopefully you feel like taking lots and lots of pictures after you are sleeved!

I'll try and take lots of snaps when I'm bored in the hospital.
