Breast Reconstruction with DIEP Flap Q&A

Also Is it true that doctors do not know in advance if they can do a DIEP reconstruction until they get inside?

Would abdominal muscle repair and hernia repair during DIEP flap surgery be avoided because of time constraints on an already lengthy surgery? Would there be added charges for each repair? Just curious. Every surgeon may do it differently. Thx!

Hi I had DIEP flap surgery and only one of my breasts was successfully completed and they had to place an implant on the other. I completely dislike the feel of implants and would like to know if it would be possible to consider a different type of flap procedure e.g. PAP flap for the breast with the implant? Also how many years do I need to wait after the DIEP flap to consider getting my second breast reconstructed with a different flap procedure. Thanks

Its been 3 weeks after my double mastectomy and diep flap reconstruction and tufted pubic area looks puffy/swollen.

I had my DIEP flap reconstruction done in three phases. My main concern is that my abdominal scar sits quite high above my waistline, which makes me very self-conscious. Im wondering if theres an option to revise the scar and lower it closer to where a typical tummy tuck scar would be?

9 years ago I had a bi-lateral mastectomy and diep flap reconstruction. Since then I have experienced prickling along my tummy and breast scars when sunbathing which seems to be getting more sensitive.

Hi there Im really struggling. Last year i had Diep reconstruction surgery for 2 types of stage 3 breast cancer. In the last recent mths my PS said i had diastisis recti But now its way worse! Its become a very large mass and i have severe pain behind my velly button. My PS isnt taking me seriously. She said im all about looks abd thaf i look alot better then when i first net her. Im goimg for a ultrasound tomorrow. But i know theres somethjng wrong and its like im being swept underr the table!

After 2 lumpectomies and radiation about 1 year ago, is DIEP basically my only safe option for reconstruction if I do a preventative double mastectomy?

It has been 18 months since my SMX with immediate DIEP flap reconstruction. I had a revision of the donor site because it was extremely lumpy. Now it's just slightly lumpy (before it was weird-looking). However, I am now having occasional pains along the scar, mostly sharp and transient. Is that from the nerves regenerating or could it be something else?
