My mother in law works at a dentistry and suggested I use Zoom whitening kits at home. I have Invisalign retainers and she said I could use them. I must have used a little too much, despite being careful, because the pain and damage my gums now have is almost unbearable. What should I do now?

Answer: Gums Severely Damaged after Zoom!® Tooth Whitening Although your Invisalign® retainers may have seemed like a good idea at the time, they are not appropriate for tooth whitening gel as the custom-made Invisalign® clear aligners are made to fit snugly causing the gel to ooze into your gums. Even if you only used a small amount of whitening gel, it will still leak out of the retainers. This is why you are experiencing pain, redness, and discomfort. Thankfully, the sensitivity will go away. Try putting some Vitamin E on your gums, which may help ease some of the discomfort. In future, ask your dentist about custom made tooth-whitening trays that you can take home or about in office tooth whitening with Zoom!®.

Answer: Zoom burn It does appear you over applied the whitening gel. i suggest putting some vitamin E oil on it. Will be soothing and will make it heal faster. Invisalign retainers are not the best option to use as whitening trays. They fit too closely to the teeth and so all of the gel oozes out. You need a more flexible tray to be more ideal for whitening.

Answer: Zoom Whitening Hello, The bleaching of the gums is usually temporary and will return to normal pigmentation in a day or two following Zoom teeth whitening procedure. If you have sensitivity you can ask your dentist for fluoride gel prescription to inject inside your trays to help with sensitivity. Hope this helps, Dr. Mazaheri
