Hello Ideane,A porcelain veneer may be referred to as a partial veneer as it does not cover the entire tooth. Instead, it covers the front and wraps around the sides and biting edge. A partial veneer can also be used to describe a restoration that only covers a portion of the facial surface (front) of a tooth. This technique can be used to fix a defect or discoloration that is present but that doesn't affect the entire facial surface. While this technique is possible, I would recommend a traditional veneer for better results. Good luck and I hope this helps. Sometimes people are using redundant terms, as a porcelain veneer IS a partial coverage restoration (covers the front, sides and tip of teeth), but there are SOME instances where the normal veneer can be half as big, covering only half of the front of the tooth. This is VERY technique dependent and requires a fantastic and experienced lab, as these are very fragile. Most cases benefit from a traditional veneer.
Based on your photos alone, I would suspect exterior staining or interior leakage. If it's exterior staining, your local dentist or hygienist may be able to remove it; if it's interior micro-leakage, you would need the veneer replaced. Good luck and I hope this helps. Follow me if...
