I am day 12 after a deep plane face lift, lower eyelid surgery with fat repositioning and rhinoplasty. My smile on my left side is slightly asymmetrical but only slightly. What is worrying me is that I am having trouble with my left eye. It is not blinking fully and I can't wink with it. I have been using preservative free eye drops but they seem to be irratating my eye more. Is not being able to blink one eye completely normal after surgery? Does it usually resolve on its own? What do you recommend I do?

Answer: Mild facial assymetry after #facelift #surgery should subside with time While most patients don't have asymmetry after facelift surgery some may. The asymmetry may be due to mild inflammation or residual effect of the local anesthesia on the nerve. in your case the trouble with blinking may be a problem call logophthalmia. usually this resolves in 3 to 4 weeks. Consult your doctor and let him know you're having this problem and he may reassure you as well.

Answer: Healing Dear ssbs1, Thank you for asking this question. Blinking may be impacted after surgery because of the eye muscles healing after lower eyelid surgery. It is also possible the nerve that controls eye muscle movement is stretched during facelift surgery. This can take weeks to improve. It is very rare that this problem remains permanent. Just make sure your eye is fully closed at night; if it isn't, you will need to tape the eye shut at night. The same applies for the asymmetry of the smile. This is likely due to the fact that the nerve that controls your smile has been stretched from the surgery and swelling. It should improve on its own with time. I recommend you follow up with your surgeon regularly. I hope this helps answer your questions.
