I had my first chemical peel 2 days ago. Now my entire forehead has a bumpy rash. Is this normal or am I having a reaction?

There are several different factors that can affect the out come of chemical peels.  1.  The technique of the person doing the peel.  Be sure you are seeing an experienced provider.  2.  The state of the skin prior to the peel.  It is advised with most peels that you stop using some topical skin products such as retinoic acid.  3.  The care of the skin post procedure.  It is very important to follow the skin care instructions given by your provider.  A couple of important directions are to avoid the sun, avoid vigorous exercise (sweating), and do not scrub or "peel" the skin as it begins to peel.  You may be having some irritation from the peel.  I would encourage you to contact the provider who administered the peel.
To be sure, see two or more experienced, licensed and board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps.

Call your docotr who did the peel. Chemical peeling of the skin is like baking a cake. Follow the recipe to wind up with what you hope for. Your doctor can advise you if this is an allergic reaction or normal.

Your skin can look pretty rough after a peel and redness, itching, mild edema or swelling can be normal.  It should improve over the next several days.  Follow the post treatment instructions.  We use the VI Peel in my office.  Usually, the peeling starts 1-3 days after the treatment with days 2-4 being the most severe (itching, burning, redness, peeling, dryness, tightness). After that, there is flaking for 2-3 days. However, if your symptoms do not get better or significantly worsen, you need to follow up with your provider.
