It all depends on your endoscopist schedule, endoscopy schedule, etc. Also you need to establish your nutrition plan prior to it and you need to get your medications pre-procedure as well as ensure you have the needed prescriptions for the post-procedure period. In addition, at least with my patients, we recommend that they buy/prepare shakes/juices for the 3-4 days post-procedure. It allows for a smoother period. So you can expect the balloon placement within few days post-interview. Best of luck
Thanks for the question. The timing will depend on a few factors. Most important is your physician's schedule and availability for performing these procedures. That will vary from practice to practice. The second factor is medications. It is recommended that you start a proton pump inhibitor (such as Prilosec or Nexium) 1-2 weeks before your Orbera balloon is inserted. This is to reduce stomach acid, which will heal any irritation and protect your stomach from developing an ulcer. If you are already on this type of medication, your procedure could be performed sooner. Finally, we would want to make sure that you have support in place if you need any assistance while recuperating after the procedure, and that you can take 2-3 days off from work/activities after the balloon is placed.
