Thank you for your inquiry! Congratulations on taking the first step to your weight loss journey by committing yourself to the gastric balloon procedure and medically supervised diet that comes along with it. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, I often require my patients to have a BMI below 30 in order to go forth with any cosmetic procedures due to possible risk factors and complications. Therefore, the weight loss is the primary step before committing to a liposuction case. I suggest completing the 6 month-long Orbera gastric balloon treatment, and before removal, reassess if you have met your weight loss goals. If you feel that you are still not please with your results, I would suggest going forward with the liposuction after the removal. I hope this answers your questions and good luck!
Hi, thanks for the question. The short answer is yes, you are able to undergo anesthesia, and liposuction with an Orbera balloon in your stomach. However, I would recommend waiting until you complete your Orbera treatment before considering any cosmetic procedures, as you are still losing weight. It would be best to first maximize your weight loss with the Orbera system, then pursue any necessary cosmetic procedures. Regarding anesthesia in general, it would be important to make sure that your surgeon and anesthesiologist are aware that you have an Orbera balloon, as there is potentially a higher risk of aspiration with the balloon in your stomach.
Thank you for your questionYes it is possible. Your anesthesiologist needs to know that so he/she can take the appropriate precautions. You will also need to get on a medication regimen around the liposuction period equal to that when you had the balloon inserted in order to avoid nausea, vomiting and cramping. You may want to reconsider doing liposuction while the Orbera balloon is in place, since that is the period when you will lose the most weight. Thus, it would be better to wait in order to maximize your liposuction results. Best of luck
Hi, Officially, the Orbera system is only FDA approved for individuals with a BMI between 30 and 40. However, we can safely use this device for people who fall slightly outside of that range. Ultimately, we want to choose the best weight loss option for you, based on your needs,...
HI, This is a common question that we receive. The short answer is no, your stomach will not shrink. Even though you will be eating much less than before, your stomach does not really change in size. While the balloon is in place, it will occupy space, which makes you feel full after...
No, the gastric balloon is not recommended for people who have had gastric sleeve surgery. The gastric sleeve is a type of bariatric surgery that involves removing a large portion of the stomach. This surgery can cause changes to the anatomy of the stomach, which can make it difficult or...
