What is the best thing to use for scar care? Is it silicone tape, bio oil or something else? Been told so many different things.

I'm currently using silicone tape but not sure if this is the going to give me the best results. Is there something better that can be recommended or is silicone tape the best option. Had breast reduction in October. Thanks

Congratulations on having had the breast reduction procedure; it is one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform.Time tends to improve the appearance of scars. You will find that the scars will improve in appearance even after a year has gone by. Best to follow your plastic surgeon's instruction; in my practice, I find the use of silicone sheeting the most effective modality. In the event of unfavorable scarring steroid injection may be helpful.   Sometimes scar revision surgery and careful scar management afterwards may be helpful.  Best wishes.

I recommend silicone either as a cream or tape / sheet as the best practical treatment for scars or to assist with scar maturation. Bio oil I believe does not contain silicone so i do not recommend it although some people have success with it.Scars naturally become pale and softer over time which varies enormously from one person to another. Even one part of the body to another. This makes it difficult to be sure if changes in your scar are just natural processes or due to what you are putting on them. Silicone gel may improve the speed of maturation and reduce the chances of hypertrophic or even keloid scars.It does need to be used early on so as soon as the wound has healed maybe starting 2 weeks after surgery if possible and then kept up for 2-3 months. If scars are going hypertrophic then starting later is probably better than not at all.If you develop rashes or infection you may need to stop at least temporarily. If in doubt consult with your surgeon or suitably qualified doctor.I hope they settle down nicely for you.
