What is the best way to prevent scarring/keloids after a tattoo?

Hello. What is the best way to prevent scarring/keloids after a tattoo for someone who is slightly prone to keloids? Ive only noticed the on a small part of my larger surgical scar. But my ear piercings are fine and I don't have keloids on smaller scars or bug bite scars. Thank you!

There is no definitive way to avoid keloid scarring; however, I recommend speaking with your tattoo specialist to discuss tattoo care to achieve the best results. If a keloid scar does form, I recommend speaking with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your treatment options.

Hi, Thanks for sharing.Keloids are very unpredictable. If you know you are at risk, the best is to avoid any trauma to the skin that could potentially lead to the formation of a keloid. Once a keloid has developed, there are different interventions that could be used to improve their appearance such as compression, local injections, targeted radiation or excision. An evaluation can help select the best treatment choice.
