4 months on Spironolactone and almost constant spotting with my period, is this normal?

I have been on spiro for almost 4 month. It has absolute started to ruin my life in the past month I've had ridiculous insomnia, mood swings, nausea, fatigue and period spotting for 10 days around the time my period was supposed to start, then 9 days later I started spotting again. Enough for a pantyliner. It has been 5 full days and still spotting. I hate it! Is this normal ?

Any modality that includes hormone can cause irregular periods and breast tenderness. Additionally Spirinolactone is associated with muscle cramps and serum potassium imbalance (that can be quite serious). There are many options to treat acne and hormonal therapy is low on my list. Sometimes the spotting and irregular periods resolve after a few months.If they persist you meed to stop the medication and have a pap smear to make surr nothing else is going on.
