I'm really worried that this will create more of a scar. What should I do?
Answer: Open rhinoplasty sutures The sutures for open rhinoplasty are very fine. Even if a few open up, it will not cause any scarring as long as there is no separation of wound edges or infection. RegardsDr.J

Answer: Nasal Anatomy: Columella and Alar Base The Nasal Columella is the central pillar of tissue between your nostrils. The Columella lies between the nasal tip to the nasal base. It is the inferior margin of the nasal septum. The Columella sits above the upper lip philtrum. From the photos above, the columella appears to have an incision with many sutures in place. Also from the photo, the left alar base appears to have sutures from an alar base reduction. It does not appear that this was done on the right side. The nasal ala is the tissue that defines the lateral boundary of the nose and surrounding the sides of either nostril. Alar base reductions can help reduce the size of the nostrils. It is possible that your plastic surgeon performed an alar base reduction on one side, to improve symmetry with the other. You should see your board certified plastic surgeon to discuss this, evaluate your incisions, and address your other concerns.
