I'm 48 years old, just had front teeth crowned. How many times can I have them crowned?

There is good news and bad news to this situation -- the good news, is that crowns are one of the most durable dental appliances. The bad news is like any dental appliance, they will eventually wear out for a myriad of reasons. Wear and tear is the most likely cause. However, high quality dental crowns made with high grade porcelain and ceramics can last for decades. While on average, they last 10-15 years, I've seen and heard cases of patients live out the rest of their natural lives (20-30+ years) without ever needing their crowns replaced. With good oral hygiene and dental care, you may never need them replaced. However, I would expect to replace them at least once in your lifetime. The good news; however, is that you probably won't need to have anymore or much more of your teeth removed to have them replaced, assuming they remain healthy.

In most cases teeth can be crowned many times as long as the dentist is careful to conserve tooth structure.  I have had my front teeth crowned 4 times in 25 years.  So you should be fine.  Let you dentist know your concerns and I am sure they will set your mind at ease.  Good luck!
