Is it possible for me to have the sleeve done now after a failed VBG 14 years ago?

Question

I had VBG 14 years ago. 2 days after surgery my incision in my stomach opened due to ice chips. I was not healing properly at that time so we "put things back to normal" and the band was removed. Needless to say i'm still super morbidly obese. I want to have the sleeve performed. I have read about having revisions is it possible?

If you have undergone a VBG, then a sleeve is not a good choice. Gastric bypass is the best option. I have revised several VBG patients to gastric bypass. It works well for them. Time has shown that VBG is a bad operation.

The surgery that you had aren´t use anymore cause the hight rate of failure. Sleeve gastrectomy or bypass surgery both are good options in your case and is posible to be success in your case. Sleeve gastrectomy have excellent results in conversion surgery, safety and secure, but have to know that all second surgeries increases complications risks more than primary surgery.
