Red Cheeks (Keratosis Pilaris Rubra) - I would like to find a doctor with experience treating KPR.

Question

I have rosy cheeks due to KPR (flat, smooth, redness with no papules). I have read several studies suggesting that treatment with the V-Beam Perfecta Laser helps reduce redness from KPR. I would like to see a doctor with experience treating KPR using lasers. I am located in NJ and would prefer a doctor in NJ/NY, but I am willing to travel anywhere for the right doctor and treatment. Please send me an email if you can treat or recommend a doctor for KPR. Thank you for your help.

Vbeam laser is an excellent modality for patients who have rosacea, blushing of the skin, facial and body telangiectasia, spider veins, redness, post surgical redness, and skin flushing. It is a safe procedure that can be used at varying depths to help treat micro blood vessels in the skin. We also use it in our office for facial skin inflammation, keloids, and hypertrophic scarring. It is an important part of scar therapy. Vbeam can be combined with chemical peels and other lasers, but experience with the treatment is essential. The Vbeam laser does not affect deeper tissue. Schedule a consultation with an expert in Vbeam and you will find it to be an excellent modality for many skin types.

Vascular laser treatment will not cure KPR but can help manage it and diminish the appearance.  I have had mixed results with some patients doing well and others not as well.  I have not found anything more successful than VBeam laser.

OK, Keratois rubra pilaris is a genetic condition that is very common- look at pictures of Royal Family, in particular younger pics of Prince William and Harry. To treat this you need to see an experienced dermatologist. The key is the pulse duration of the V Beam- normally we use a 6ms for rosacea, but to treat KRP you need to shorten this by a factor of 4. What does this mean to you?1. Treatments are painful, sedation maybe needed- I use Pentrox inhalers2. You will have swelling and bruising for a few days3. You will need 2-4 treatments. 4. You WILL be patchy in between treatments. 5. You WILL require a top up treatment yearly until you grow out of this condition - usually in the late 30s. That KRP in a nut shell, very common, and I treat quite a few cases a week. Most laser dermatologists will know the settings for the V Beam for KRP.cheersand best of luck....RegardsDr Davin S.
