In regards to the taking of antibiotics for implant surgery...It is only a safeguard.  Considering that you bone is exposed during the procedure many dentists will ask for a 5-7 day antibiotic such as amoxicillin or z-pack just to play it safe.  Unless you have been told by your M.D. that you must have coverage, it is just an optional but sound decision.

Typically, antibiotics are not necessary to take when getting implants placed. Many doctors will prescribe them to lessen the chance of infection however. You do not need coverage for endocarditis unless you have the history of heart valve damage or replacement valves.

Dear Jam2014: There is no reason to give antibiotics prior yo implant surgery.  Implants are not 100% successful, even though fairly close to it on many cases.  The initial deintegration might be just a statistic. best of luck,
