2 Weeks After Breast Reduction and my Incisions Are Bleeding and Oozing?

Question

I got breast reduction about 2 weeks ago and some of my scars are still oozing and bleeding so I have had to put gauze on those areas, but now where my incisions meet under my breast and just bellow the nipple it looks like the incision split. I do have my doctor's appointment in a couple of days but I wanted to know if there is anything I can do now. Also, is it okay to take the sport bra and gauze off for 12 hours and let the wound dry?

If you are continuing to experience oozing and bleeding from the incision site, you should see your surgeon asap especially at 2 weeks post surgery. This may be something minor just mild oozing/bleeding from incision edge or this may be serious where the oozing and bleeding is coming from deeper tissues. It is difficult to give you specific advice without actual examination or photos. I would recommend that you contact your surgeon's office and be seen as possible.

Oozing and some slight bleeding are not uncommon following breast reduction and are usually the sign of some mild breakdown along the wound. This is most common directly underneath the breast where three parts of skin brought together at the T point of the incision. However, at two weeks post op, if the incision is beginning to "split" this may be a problem that needs to be addressed. It would be best to contact your surgeon ASAP so that they may see you and figure out what is going on.

If you are bleeding and oozing from your incisions after surgery and it is two weeks out then that is unusual and you should see your doctor ASAP.

Although it is unusual to have bleeding and oozing 2 weeks after a reduction, it is not unheard of. The only way to tell if your healing is normal but slow is to have an in person exam. You should call your surgeon and get in to see him or her as soon as possible. He or she is also in the best position to let you know whether going without a bra and letting your incisions dry is a good idea. Good luck to you.
