I had liposuction 8 days ago on upper arms, trunk, inner/outer thighs, and knees. Previous to surgery I was taking phentermine and half of water pill (hztz) for diet. Since surgery my hemoglobin has dropped way below normal. I'd like to know if its safe for me to start taking the water pill again and if it will have any benefits to removing swelling? Thank you!

In general, liposuction is very safe. Yes, clots in the legs can happen but are rare and more likely with long procedures, abdominoplasty, and with certain medical conditions.
Drinking water is fine after liposuction and actually decreases edema by getting rid of sodium when you pee. It is the salt (Sodium that helps retain water in the body). In my practice, A compression garment placed in surgery immediately after liposuction (steristrip protects the sutures)...
If a small amount of lipoaspirate was taken, the swelling should be less. I always recommend compression garment for 4 weeks in this case. However, the swelling may be markedly improved in 2 or 3 weeks. Kenneth Hughes, MD Los Angeles, CA
