I had a small chip right next to the very tip of my right canine tooth and had it smoothed out. This made the tooth extremely round whereas the left canine is very pointy and sharp. I went back and the dentist shaped it to be pointy. Now the canine I had work on is much shorter and I am having sensitivity. It has been 3 weeks. Could they put a small composite on my canine to help match the length a bit better? Sensitivity and mismatch in length is bothering me.
Answer: Not all dental materials are durable A canine tooth is unique, in that the bite forces generated are more than other teeth. While a composite CAN be placed, it won't likely last very long. The difference in size is such that it should be pointed out that "perfection" cannot ever be achieved, and perfect symmetry will be impossible. The photos shared do not show a significant difference that can easily be changed, and any attempt would be very expensive with no promise of longevity. A porcelain veneer would be a better option, but an aggressive solution.

Answer: Canine Hi:You can have a piece of bonding added to the tip of the canine to make it look more pointy, however the bonding may not last very long due to the location and the direct pressure exerted on it while biting.Best,Dr. Maddahi

Answer: Composite for Canine? Hello and thank you for your question. The best way to answer this is with an in-person evaluation, but a composite may be an option, but a porcelain veneer may be a better alternative. I recommend getting a consultation with a Prosthodontist, who can discuss with you the different options. A Prosthodontist is a dental specialist who has advanced training in restoring teeth and can create a customized treatment using the latest techniques in restoration.
