I had a pretty big cavity on my right back molar. The dentist recommended I see an endodontist. After tests, no root canal needed. I had crown prep the next day. After 3 days it started aching. No worse eating, just a constant pain. It goes away with ibuprofen but returns after 8 or so hours. I had the permanent crown placed 8 days ago and still feel the same pain. I was seen this morning and the x ray/ice test/tapping showed no sign of infection. Is this normal? How long should it last?

Sorry to hear that.
If you had a root canal and you are sensitive in the same area to heat and sweet, it is not that tooth, most probably it is another tooth! If proper root canal is done and you have had a crown, there should be no temperature sensitivity! Also a cracked tooth can cause pain...

Hi:If there is pain upon biting, you should go back to your dentist to recheck the bite in different jaw movements and make sure there is no clenching or grinding pressure on the crown. This can also effect the hot and cold sensitivity.Best,Dr. Maddahi
