Hypertrophic scar got bigger after 1st Laser Co2 treatment. (photos)

Question

Dear RSelf, I got a hypertrophic scar after acid burnt. I had steroid injections 8 times but it didn't work. The first picture is my scar after 8 steroid treatments. As steroid didn't work for me, I went to another doctor to have my scar treated with laser co2. The doctor flattened my scar and extended it too. You can see in the 2nd picture. I wondered why he did it. Did he do it on purpose or was it a mistake? I'm nervous that my scar would be bigger after healing. Please help me Thanks a ton!

I recommend following up with your Doctor about any concerns you have about your treatment. This scar can be improved with a combination of vascular lasers like yellow laser, Aerolase, microneedling/prp, skin lightening, peels, and skin care. Sun protection is essential. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an scarring expert.  Silagen gel should be used twice daily with jan marini bioshield.  Best, Dr. Emer

CO2 laser resurfacing is an outstanding treatment that can address multiple
aspects of aging in a single treatment. It also works well for hypertrophic scars. In these cases a series of treatments is recommended and full results are seen approximately 12 months after the final treatment. Patience is important. Please

Hypertrophic and keloid scars can be very challenging, and often require multiple treatments and patience.  With a combination of vascular lasers, fractionated ablative (e.g. Erbium) or non-ablative lasers in very gentle settings, and 4-6 weekly injections with steroid+/-5-fluorouracil should improve this scar for you over a number of months.
