How much darker can cement make veneers & crown?

Dentists can prescribe levels of translucency in veneers. A “high translucent” BL4/0M1 veneer can be made to be appear darker with a darker cement while a “low translucent” BL4/0M1 veneer won’t be influenced much by a darker cement. It’s all about show through. So if your want BL4/0M1 mixed with 1M1.5 look, then I’d ask you dentist to ask the lab to make a “low translucent” veneer with the blending of shades already built in and that way you won’t need the cement to influence the shade values. It is more challenging for the dentist to use different shades of cement on a tooth to change a “high translucent” veneer to create your look. It is possible but not many dentists enjoy doing that. It is much easier is the lab made the veneers already in those shades. Communication isn’t HUGE.

Hi There!  The simple answer is yes.  Porcelain veneers can be custom shaded.  We often recommend that for SmileDesign patients at the Center for Esthetic Dentistry, LLC in New Haven CT.  Sometimes it is baked in originally when the veneers are being made.  And sometimes it is added at the end, at the glazing phase.  Any good dental lab can do this. The web link shows you four veneers, with the lateral smaller side teeth custom shaded to blend more with the canines. I hope this helps.
