Hi. I am a 26 year old female who had been having major hair shedding for 3 and a half months maybe longer that I didn’t really notice. I visited my doctor for full bloods and all was fine. I then went to see a Trichologist who suggested 3% Minoxidil. I have been using this for the past month and my hair loss hasn’t seemed to calm down at all if anything it’s getting worse. I’m really worried how much longer the shedding will last as I’m worried I’m not going to have any hair left as it’s already so thin.

It can take up to 6 months to see results with Minoxidil.  I suggest a consultation with a cosmetic dermatologist with experience in hair restoration and maintenance. Some great options for hair restoration and maintenance are prp injections which can stimulate hair growth. Hope this helps.

Starting minoxidil therapy (in any type of hair loss condition) can lead to a month or two of increased shedding. Telogen effluvium usually lasts 6-12 months and the use of Minoxidil may shorten the time until resolution.

Telogen Effluviums usually run their course which can be a few years. See a doctor and work with that doctor to manage the problem
