Getting nipples repierced after breast augmentation? How long to wait.

Question

Hey, I had my surgery around three months ago now. I had my nipples pierced for around 6 years before removing them for my surgery. How long would you recommend to wait before getting them repierced please? Thank you in advance. My implants were above the muscle if that makes any difference.

I recommend my patients wait at least six weeks before piercing their nipples after breast augmentation surgery. It's always best, though, to check on your surgeon about his or her protocol. At three months post op you could go ahead with repiercing.  Be careful that it is done under sterile conditions to reduce the possibility of infection.

Three months is long enough for a re-piercing of your nipples.Infection risk must be minimized so an infection does not spread to your implant.

It is crucial that nipple piercing after breast implants be done  under sterile conditions with sterile skin preparation  and piercings.  I have seen 1 terrible infection  that required implant removal a patient who had her nipples pierced in a non-medical  environment 3 weeks after breast augmentation.  If at all possible I would see if your plastic surgeon would do the piercing for you under sterile conditions.
