Should Ultrasound Be Used Right After Lipo Surgery?

        Ultrasound is not a necessary component of postoperative care of liposuction.  The skill of the surgeon is the most important part of the process.  Find a plastic surgeon with ELITE credentials who performs hundreds of liposuction procedures each year.  Then look at the plastic surgeon's website before and after photo galleries to get a sense of who can deliver the results.  Kenneth Hughes, MD Los Angeles, CA

In the recovery phase after liposuction/ liposculpture many techniques can be used to improve or speed up the recovery. In my opinion compression is the most important component   Which I recommend you should wear until all the bruising is resolved.  I have used ultrasound to decrease swelling and bruising and have even use an Endermologie machine that rolls and suctions at the same time. Some of my colleagues also use a cold laser in the immediate days after liposuction. unfortunately healing takes time and in liposuction healing is a 3-dimensional problem which includes swelling bruising and eventual contraction of the tissues and skin.  Give yourself plenty of time to heal. I do not believe that ultrasound would be harmful to you in the postoperative period.  Good luck with her surgery.
