My practice prefers Allergan overfilled silicone cohesive gel implants to minimize rippling and maintain softness and offers all three types of form stable (gummy bear) implants available from Allergan/Natrelle. The form stable implants are indeed harder as the silicone becomes more and more solid. I have used Mentor and Sientra as well and think all companies make reasonable implants with reasonable warranties.
Dear BALF,those are very good implants. The two main types of implants are silicone and saline. The shell of the implants can be either textured (which reduces capsular contracture) or smooth. A textured implant sometimes requires a larger incision. The shape of the implant can be either round or tear drop shaped (gummy bear). Both have their advantages and disadvantages. The different types of implant offer different pros and cons. For instance, the pros of silicone implants are that they look and feel more natural and ripple less.On the other hand, the pros of saline implants are that they do not require as large of an incision as silicone, less expensive, they have less incidence of capsular contracture (scarring around the implant), one can tell immediately if there is a rupture, the size can be slightly adjusted, and they can be used for women less than 22 years of age.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
The five main manufacturers of breast implants in the world are Mentor, Allergan, Sebbin (Sientra), Motiva, and IDEAL. The latter is saline filled, Mentor and Allergan offer both silicone gel filled and saline filled, and Motiva offers only silicone gel filled. There are subtle differences between all of the implants but from a quality standpoint they are all essentially equivalent and there is no "best" implant that anyone can agree on. Please consult with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon whose aesthetics align with your own, based on his or her Before and After gallery. I recommend that you bring images of women's breasts you consider to be pretty, and your plastic surgeon can advise you as to how to best achieve your goals. Best of luck to you.
The "best implant" varies depending upon which surgeon you talk to and his/her experience. They all are made according to strict and safe guidelines. Mentor and Allergan both have been in business for several decades and have weathered the implant storms of the 90's and early 2000's, and have both gel and saline implants. Motiva only offers gel implants and Ideal only offers saline. I personally use only Mentor and Allergan because of their long history of safe implants, great company support and stability, and warranty. They both should be big enough to weather the next storm and survive.
there is no study which proves the superiorty of one brand of implant over another. More important is the safety aspect and the only US FDA approved implants are Allergan, Mentor, Sebbin and Ideal implants. This is not to say Motiva implants are unsafe they have been approved to be used in Europe, Japan etc and have received premarket approval in USA. So please consult with your PS to determine which is the best fit for you.
Your implant sizes that you mentioned are indeed fairly large for your frame and I find that doing sizing with implants placed in a bra works very well for women with very little tissue, but can be inaccurate in women who have as much tissue as you do. Personally, I would recommend that you ...
